What schools are missing from "CC Top Universities"?

Does anybody know how the top universities were picked? How long has it been since they have been updated? What schools should be added? Should any schools be removed?

It seems to me like some schools are definitely missing. In my opinion, the most glaring omissions are Tufts, USC, Wake Forest, and NYU. I think a case could also be made for William and Mary, Boston College, Case Western, UCSD, UI-UC, and UT-A. I'm probably missing some, too. What do you guys think?

Feel from to also comment on "CC Top Liberal Art Colleges." I'm not familiar with many LAC's, so I can't give my opinion there.

Looks like it is simply the number of posts in their forum, not a raking of any kind.

^ But don’t you think the schools designated as top universities receive more posts also because they are highlighted under their own sub-forum and labeled as top universities? Some of the forums for the schools listed above (such as USC’s) have more activity than some of the less active “CC Top Universities” forums.

NYU
Wake Forest
UCSD

I was also shocked to find Tufts wasn’t on it when I first joined cc.

Yes, the schools you listed seem to fit. I think Tufts’ absence is the most shocking.

I don’t know much about Tufts, but my peers say that it’s only locally recognized. It’s big in the Northeast and maybe on the West, but anywhere else it’s completely unknown. I guess the case could be argued with other schools, though.

Yes, I agree that its prestige varies greatly from region to region. But, I think it is highly respected in academia and in certain private/public sector fields (medicine, IR, etc). I think it’s also because Tufts has more of an LAC-feel than its peers and its research and grad programs aren’t as broad.

I think USC and maybe NYU should be there, but otherwise the list is pretty predictable.

What about Tufts? I agree that it is pretty predictable otherwise.
