What schools are you applying to and why?

I am applying to Greenhills School and Ashbury College.

Greenhills is an independent day school in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I went there for an open house and loved it. The kids are really enthusiastic and love to learn. I also took the SSAT here and hopefully I did well. (I should get my scores by December 27). They offer 18 AP courses which is a lot for their size. (~350 kids in the upper school) They have the sports I am interested in, too. (Soccer, tennis, swimming, etc.) I am going to schedule my interview after Christmas break and give my teachers the recommendation forms.

The second school is Ashbury College (Ottawa, ON) and I went their for a summer program two summers ago. It is an independent IB day and boarding school. My dad lives only a few minutes from the school, but I don't know if I would want to live with him or not. Hopefully I will be touring the school over Christmas Break. It is in an extremely wealthy section of Ottawa (Rockcliffe Park) and a lot of ambassadors' kids go here. I was thinking that this would be a good advantage for me because I'm really interested in IR and different cultures and it would seem like the perfect place for me.

Hopefully I will be applying to some New England boarding schools next year. I want to go to these schools for my ninth grade year so I could build up a better application. The local high school just isn't right for me.

Now it's your turn!

Andover, Exeter, SPS

I don't think that I really need to explain these schools--most of you will be familiar with them already.

Phillips Academy
Phillips Exeter Academy
Milton Academy
Concord Academy
Deerfield Academy
Groton School
St. Paul's School
St. Mark's School

Head-Royce School--Independant K-12 Day School in the Bay Area. My stepmother went there, and I know quite a few people who went or go there. Very good academics, but a lot of the children are more kids of the wealthy who send their kids to private schools, so it's not super-rigorous. I did an academic summer program there over the summer a few years ago, which I liked.
The College Preparatory School--Independant 9-12 Day School in the Bay Area. More academically rigorous than Head-Royce, but less well-known.
Marin Academy--Independant 9-12 Day School in the Bay Area. Similar to Head-Royce, though I believe a bit more rigorous.

I'm applying to the high boarding schools for different reasons for each school, but generally because I love the location, academic excellence, and general ideals of the schools. I'm applying to the three private day schools because my local high school is not very good, and I don't want to attend if I don't get into any boarding schools.

Choate Rosemary Hall - v. good arts program, good feeling about it, good English courses, nice campus

Phillips Academy Andover - nice campus, great academics, good location, nice kids
