what schools can i consider safeties?

im trying to pick out colleges, but i have no idea what i can consider a safety. i took the sats a year ago in october and got 770 in math and 740 in critical reading. i will probably take them again soon. im considering these schools: purdue, u maryland college park, u michigan ann arbor, carnegie mellon, notre dame, johns hopkins, duke, and a few others. any help on which ones of those would be ok to call a safety?

With those scores Maryland College Park, UMich, and Purdue are safeties.

Safety Category:

State Schools: If you are above their 75th SAT percentile and above their average GPA, they are a safety, OR if you are in their medium range and you are in-state, then it's a safety.State schools are easier to get into because they arent as subjective as long as you got the grades and arent a drug dealer.

Private Schools: No such thing as a safety, as they could reject you for random reasons even if your the best person applying to the school.

thanks! im also applying to some ivies and obviously thats always up in the air no matter how good your scores are. im debating whether or not i should apply to SUNY binghamton also because i was planning on using that as my safety but after hearing my friends safeties, im thinking maybe thats a little too safe, if theres such a thing. and one more thing...my dad is a professor at SUNY geneseo, which kinda makes me hesitant to apply there because i really wanna get out and do my own thing when high school is over. but geneseo is a better school and they have an honors college too. chances are slim id end up going to a SUNY school, but if financial stuff doesnt work out it might happen. should i apply to the better state school even if my dad teaches there or the slightly less hard to get into one and be independent?

SUNY Binghamnton is not a safety school, especially not with the current amount of colege applicants. Get a clue.
