What Schools can I get into as a transfer?

High School
GPA: 2.9
ACT: 26
ECs: Football, Track

Community College
GPA through 48 credits: 4.0
ACT retook during college: 34
ECs: employed at Best Buy, volunteer for the United Way

I live in Illinois and went to high school there, but went to CC in Michigan and stayed at a family house.

I'm taking 12 credits this Fall and will do everything I can to keep the 4.0, which should be no problem because I kept it after taking 20+ credits a semester last year. I plan to try and tranfer for spring 2011 or take a semester off and wait until fall 2011 and plan to major in economics.

I have no good reason for performing poorly in high school other than I was lazy.

Schools I'm thinking about are:

Michigan - Ann Arbor
Illinois - Urbana-Champaign
NYU
USC
UCLA
NYU
Northwestern

Do I have a shot at any of them?

Does your community college have an articulation agreement with any of the schools in Michigan? This means that the four year school agrees to accept the students from the CC and also their credits towards a four year degree.

I’m a little confused about your residency. From what you posted, it appears you were “staying” at a house in Michigan but your family lives in Illinois. To me, this means you are instate for Illinois for tuition purposes because that is the residency of your parents. Are you able to consider all of the above schools without any concern about how you will pay for them? Or will you need financial aid or need to consider the overall cost?

The schools on your list are somewhat competitive but you have done well in your CC courses so give it a whirl. I would suggest adding some other instate (figure out where that is first) school that is slightly less competitive.

Personally, I think your list is a little top heavy but certainly trying is fine as long as you balance the list with some less competitive schools as well.

My best advice for you is to stop creating new accounts on college confidential and making repetitive threads about how terrible you performed in high school and want to transfer to top schools. You’re embarrasing yourself in front of the community JayCobb, Pierre12, Techerdz, and Kenshin2.

Are you also atlak15? : http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/947411-where-could-i-transfer.html

Why have there been more than 2 new accounts made for the past two days?

I’m gonna have to agree with one of the previous posters. Your list seems a little top heavy. Not to say you wouldn’t be able to get into one of those schools. But I’d recommend maybe a safety school or two. If you keep up the 4.0 though and write good essays then you will be a strong candidate

This isn’t a new account. I joined yesterday and posted yesterday after lurking for a week.

I hold an Illinois driver’s license and my parents reside in Illinois. My parents own a cottage in Michigan and I’m staying there. To get in district tuition at the CC your guardians just have to hold taxable property in the district. I don’t think that will get me in-state tuition for the University of Michigan though. Michigan and my CC do have a transfer agreement where they tell transferable courses and recommend schedules, but not where it’s guaranteed admission.

I also have 3-4 safe schools, but I was just asking people’s opinions of my reaches.

i think you should wait to apply for junior year so that your HS grades won’t matter as much. you’ll have a better chance at some of your reaches that way

Just make sure you don’t take TOO many courses at the community college.

Yeah, and don’t get too disgruntled if you don’t get into more than one of them. College admissions are unpredictable nowadays and they’re either a hit or miss. Just make you sure you get involved and write solid essays.
