My son turned down Duke for Columbia.

An excellent choice ;)

Applied Columbia ED over Stanford SCEA.

lol that doesnt mean you turned it down. you dont even know if you would have gotten in

I turned down the University of Washington and Northwestern for Columbia.

stan, i did choose Columbia ED over Stanford SCEA, and I think that is more the general question that the OP is asking.

Stanford University

Columbia over Duke too

Georgetown, Cornell, Berkeley.

U Chicago, Notre Dame, Emory, NYU

Cornell Engineering, NYU CAS

i got a friend who turned down columbia engineering for penn engineering, idk why...

turned down Cornell Hotel and NYU Stern for SEAS

Williams College, UVa (Echols Scholars Program), Berkeley.

dartmouth and gtown

georgetown, tufts (w/scholarship) & brown

Calballero, did you really choose Columbia over one of the HYPS? You must really really like Columbia or something. Is it because NYC rocks?

gutrade, that's a bit of a ridiculous question. think about what you're saying. the difference between stanford and columbia is so slight as to be almost negligible. particularly on the east coast, columbia is just as highly regarded as stanford (if not more so).

Gutrade, Did it ever occur to you that perhaps Columbia was a better match for Caballero than Stanford? Really, the level of prestige-whoring on CC is out of control.

I myself did not turn down that many high profile schools for Columbia, because Columbia was one the only reach schools I decided to apply to. I turned down NYU, BU, BC, and Holy Cross.

Turned down:
University of Toronto, University of Calgary, McGill University, Queen's University.
Brown, Carnegie Mellon, Cornell, Dartmouth, Duke, Johns Hopkins, Penn,
Rice, Stanford, Tufts, Wellesley, Wesleyan.

I was surprised that I would be accepted to any school in the US...so it was a shock, but I'm really happy about my decision. :)
