What did you turn down for IU?

Here's what I did...

Turned down: MSU (11K/year), Ohio (19K/year), Syracuse (20K/year), Wisconsin (26K/year), Miami (29K/year)

For: Indiana (16K/year)

For Business, Indiana was the best, with Ohio being off the map, Syracuse and Miami being mediocre, and MSU and Wisconsin being comparable. However, MSU and Wisconsin didn't offer my major (Sport Management). So my decision was pretty easy. :)

How about you?

i turned down university of miami, illinois institute of technology (i am a victim of college mail advertising although i tink iit is a decent school), ucla, ucsd, uc irvine, uc davis and ucsb ( heh what?? im a california resident, its tradition to apply to the UC's :)) like a2wolves, for business it was either ucla or IU and it was a tough decision, prestige or dream school? it finally came down to if i wanted to study business or not, which school i could do better in and which school would i want to be at for 4 years. cost between IU and UCLA were comparable.

btw, what is the $k/year about? is tat scholarships or tuition cost?

Turned down:

UCSD
UCSB
UCD
UCI
Ohio State
Penn State
Texas

I was going to go to Texas but they are increasing tuition dramatically in the next two years.

heh man 1/3 of my school is going to uci lol yup go anteaters

$/year is what I had to pay at each school.

Irvine is called the ant eaters?!?! Thats sad.

OMG TRIPPERIAN YOU R A CALIFORNIAN!! how could you not know UCI's mascot!!!!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Wow, yeah, I just saw that tuition hikes at Texas. It was like 15K this year for OOS students. Next year, 21K, year after that, 28K. Wow, no way. That was a school I filled out the application and didn't send it.

aww man you shouldve sent it! i mean you already filed it out..... i was gona apply to umich but got lazy lol and i didnt tink i could afford tat 35,000+ oos tuition without aid or scholarships (which i problay wouldnt get). the one school i regret not applying to was NYU and Boston university man i shoulda applied.....

Turned down:

Rice
Carleton
Grinnell with $7.5k a year scholarship
Lafayette with $8k a year scholarship
Denison with $15k a year scholarship
Tulane with $22k a year scholarship
Case Western Reserve with $22k a year scholarship
UT Austin
UW-Madsion
SUNY Binghamton PWC Honors Program $500 scholarship
SUNY Stonybrook Univeristy Scholar Program $3.5k a year scholarship

^ I havent heard of half of those schools. And what does SUNY mean? I always see it.

"OMG TRIPPERIAN YOU R A CALIFORNIAN!! how could you not know UCI's mascot!!!!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"

Because I've never cared.

SUNY = state university of New York, sigh tripperian, you're mind is so limited i feel sorry for u... LOL beat tat norcal boy

Why did you turn down Rice?

The academics and quality of life are undoubtedly top-notch; however, Rice University is not as strong as Indiana University in the social sciences and business. Money is also a factor in my decision; in the end, I felt that with the money I could potentially save by going to IU, I will have a lot more financial flexibility and money left over for grad school.

Ur wrong, ur mind is brain-fried from those so-cal fumes. U know u've asked that question before. Plus why do they call it 'state university of New York'? Y cant they be normal and call it 'New York state university' like the rest of America?

US News gives Rice a peer assessment rating of 4.2, and Indiana 3.8. Indiana's peer assessment rating is equal to those of NYU, USC, and William & Mary. I wouldn't say that the schools are so far off that it will hurt you academically, especially considering the strength of the Honors program at IU. Did you go for the Wells Scholarship or Kelley Scholars pwcrice? If you got into Rice, i'm willing to bet IU gave you a full ride, or a near full ride.

William & Mary, and NYU? I didn't know that, it was viewed that highly in other regions.

Turned down UIUC and Rutgers.

What is there to know?

30 Univ. of Southern California 69 3.8
31 College of William and Mary (VA)* 68 3.8
35 New York University 66 3.8
43 University of California Davis * 61 3.8
58 Purdue Univ. West Lafayette (IN)* 53 3.8
60 Univ. of Minnesota Twin Cities * 52 3.8
68 Indiana University Bloomington * 50 3.8

Those are all the schools with a 3.8 peer assessment rating.

I think that the peer assessment rating is more accurate than the actual ratings. It's what other schools, faculty, employers, deans, etc. think of each other's quality of the school.

That's why I don't care much for IU being in the 70s through US News. They're in the top 36-42 when you take out all the "test scores, retention rate, class size, resources, donation" crap.
