I was looking at the chance thread, and I was like, Villanova, BC,Babson? ORLY. It seems like everything besides Kent County Community College is there. So what's the point of going to a selective school if you can get in from anywhere?

It makes your life a lot easier.

This may sound hard to believe, but there’s more to college than just IB placement.

Wharton sends over 100 students to IB every year. I would be very surprised if places like BC send more than 2-3.

Believe it or not, BC usually has ~30 kids enter IB each year (boutiques and BB’s).

I don’t think I’ve met anyone from BC in my 2 years at a BB. I’m guessing some of those might be doing commercial banking/investment management or other non-client facing jobs. Either that or they’re in a lot of middle market shops.

Angryelf is right in that you should not pick a college just for IB placement. However, the difference between a top target and the schools the OP listed are huge.

Eh, all this really means is that you’ve never set food in Barclays, UBS or Citi.
Also, both commercial banking and investment management are client facing roles.

It’s very possible I’ve worked with people from BC and didn’t know what school they were from.

Sorry didn’t mean to imply commercial banking wasn’t client facing. I just meant that normally when people talk about getting into IB it’s usually referring to M&A advisory and underwriting.
