I don't know if this has been posted before. But I read in another thread that some schools (Princeton?) don't factor in freshman grades. Is this true? And if it is true, of which schools does it apply to?

Princeton, Stanford, UCs are the ones I’m aware of.

I think Stanford now does consider 9th grade since it moved to the Common App this past application season.

curious: princeton also accepts the Common App but it still doesn’t count freshman year, unless they changed but i doubt it

And this is relevant because…?

CommonApp = I care about 9th grade?

From skimming through Stanford’s website, apparently not so..

Snide for what reason? I said I think! Not I know.
The relevance is that the Common App includes no instructions not to enter items from 9th grade, whereas the Stanford application for the high school class of 2006 asked students not to include information regarding 9th grade. Now Stanford only uses the Common App. Thus the logic and relevance. But perhaps they have instructions otherwise in their Supplement (which is only available to registered Common App users), which I have not seen. So if you’re interested in Stanford, email them or register as a user with the Common App and check out the Stanford supplemental instructions.

Haha, my bad ;)

Well yeah I was referring to the grades, I remember reading on their website that they do not even require freshman grades on transcript or similar sort; who knows, they might care about the EC’s. haha.

You are forgiven. Younger S plans to apply to Stanford this year so eventually we will see the supplement and learn how they treat 9th grade.

Thanks! That is very helpful. No other schools though? I think every school should do that… :)

so UCLA and Berkley will average my soph, junior, and senior GPAs?
