Right now I'm a high school junior living in NJ. I've recently become interested in majoring in advertising, mainly because I am creative and I do layout for my school's newspaper. I was wondering which schools have solid (or great) advertising programs? My first choice school is UVA, but they don't have an advertising program (I just love the school). I'm also looking at Pepperdine, Florida, and Miami (all which have advertising programs). How do these schools rank in terms of their advertising programs, and do you have any other suggestions?

I live in Florida, I know UF’s advertising program is great. They’re program is ranked well (Of course, not too many schools offer the major).

Take a look at Boston Univ. My daughter is majoring in advertising there.

Newhouse @ Syracuse as well; tremendous alumni network…

If you love UVA - and get accepted - go there. Majoring in advertising is a complete waste of time. If that’s still what you want to do after four years then go to the graduate program at Virginia Commonwealth or one of a handful of other specialized schools. Is it possible to get a job without going that route? Sure. Most places I’ve worked at have been full of grads of schools like Syracuse who answer phones, make no money and eventually get promoted because their boss feels bad for them. It isn’t about dues paying, they’re simply unprepared and underserved by the instruction they received in college by clueless professors. People who go the route I suggested are, by contrast, often the subject of bidding wars when they seek their first job and are thrown right into the fire professionally.
