What will give you the best chance at getting into med school is to submit an application that is strong in all respects (eg high GPAs, MCAT, ECs that show you have characteristics med schools expect to see (eg, leadership, altruism, compassion), strong LoRs, PS that answers why medicine (hopefully it’s not because of TV shows)), and then, if offered an interview, don’t blow the interview. As mentioned above and considering the intense completion, don’t just apply to well known med schools. All US schools are good schools and can serve as platform for whatever area of medicine you want to pursue. Most colleges will offer you the opportunities and resources to become a successful med school applicant. Whether you do so will be more on your efforts, less on college attended. Take to heart about choosing colleges where you can graduate with as little debt. Two other tidbits, one, research is not a required EC, especially if you have no interest and especially if the “research” consists of cleaning glassware for grad students). Two, ignore college success rates about getting students into med school as these numbers can be misleading. Good luck. Enjoy your remaining time in hs.
