So I'm currently a junior in high school, and currently i would like to major in math & secondary education, but i would also like to minor in musical theater, not just music or theatre. I know not alot of colleges have musical theater minors (besides montclair and mmc which i'm not interested in), and I don't think i would have enough room to double major in musical theater with the math and secondary ed degree depending on the school. I could use all the help I can get, thanks :)

Marymount let’s you do a double major in education and theatre with a minor in MT and you can still graduate in 4 years. I know you said you’re not interested in them, but if it is just because you don’t think you’d have enough room, I’d call and talk to them.

Some other programs have minors in theatre, but you can take musical theatre courses.

Monmouth University in NJ has a strong education program as well as a musical theater minor

Ahh I may look at Monmouth University I didn’t know that… and about Marymount I had a friend that went there already and she didn’t like it at all, and I’m not sure if I really want that type of campus experience. My friend was telling me that Susquehanna had a MT minor, but the thing with some colleges is that they don’t post those minors on their website, but maybe they’re able to make their own minors up. I’m kind of new to the college search so I’m trying to take it all in haha.

Take a look at Muhlenberg. Very well regarded LAC with a very strong theatre department that offers a major in theatre performance. It also has very strong music and dance departments. Two musicals are staged per year. While there isn’t a formal “minor”, students structure the equivalent of a minor (as well as a MT “major”) based on the offerings from the 3 departments.

I went to look at Muhlenberg and I absolutely loved it; I’m definitely considering that school it’s one of my top choices :)

I know that SUNY Cortland has a fantastic education program and they offer a BA in MT and a minor in MT as well. It is a young program, and was NOT a good fit for my D for a number of reasons, but it worked very well for others.

I’m not sure if it’s a good fit for me either haha, I just took a look. I just don’t know too much about it.

Wagner College could be a possibility for you. They have a good education department and stage multiple musicals during the year.

One of the schools in that area that my D got a lot of info from was Hofstra. They offer a minor in MT. Good luck!

Thank you I heard about Hofstra but one of my friends had an extremely bad experience there so i’m not sure. I wonder what other schools in PA (besides Kutztown…) have the MT minor. I already know about Muhlenberg, but I was hearing good things about Susquehanna too.
