What Schools let you make your own major?

Hello. I've heard of some schools letting you create your own major if there is one that does not suffice. For example I'm a political philosophy major but I'm sure not all schools have that and if I were to transfer I was wondering what schools would let me create a political philosophy major at their school instead of having to double major in poly sci and philosophy?

i KNOW EVERGREEN College in washington does that. They give out written progress reports.

UC Berkeley has a program called Interdisciplinary Studies Field Major (ISF). You have to pull from at least 3 different majors to create your own, have it approved by an advisor, and in your senior year write a thesis. Pretty cool. It's what I'm doing (if I stay at Cal). I know Brown also has some sort of program too...?

I believe NYU's Gallatin (sic) might be that sort of program, though I'm not exactly how wide options are. I did not research that program/school much.

WUSTL has the prorgram too, but it needs tons of approval.

UCLA,

actually most shcools have something like that i belive but you have to go through a lot of hoops

Oh really? It's at most schools? I don't mind putting in the working and running around to get it approved. I just need to have the option available. Thanks for all the help and input.

well all the schools i ever looked into had something like that,

you could just type up the schools website and see a list of majors... but usually somewhere it will say somethin g along the lines of

"for highly motivated inviduals whose needs are not met by the majors offered we offer a blah blah (create your own ) major" some schools call it indersciplinary , others call it Independant study... whatever the case.

UT Austin's Plan II seems something like that. It's a very interesting program.

UIC has a program that allows you to design your own major.

But what does designing your own major mean anyway?

Creating your own major usually means you design a field of study which pulls from multiple departments. It cannot replicate an already existing major, and it usually involves a research project/thesis. So it's not like I could create a major about "superheroes" if I wanted. There are no departments that offer enough courses on superheroes to get an interdisciplinary view on the subject (geography and superheroes! political science and superheroes! chemistry and superheroes! no, doesn't exist. that'd be sweet though).
