What schools offer good marine sciences and also a good thetre aerts program?

Preferably NY but open to anywhere....my daughter is a jr in high school.

Thanks

Hampshire, Wesleyan (maybe? Not entirely sure, but worth checking out).

University of Miami. Both programs are very strong and for serious, committed students.

Williams has a one semester joint program with Mystic Seaport:

Brown?

Rutgers!!!

Perhaps Duke.

FYI -Cornell University, together with The University of New Hampshire operate the fabulous Shoals Marine Laboratory. Your daughter can apply for a summer semester there as a high school student or as a college undergrad. They are accepted as Cornell credits or UNH credits… you should look into it. Obviously the two sponsor universities accept the credits, but many if not most undergraduate programs will accept the credits. If she is interested in attending this summer (before her senior year) she has to apply by February 15th.

For a good/great marine science program you are going to need to be on the water… and I’d say NY is NOT a hot spot for that specifically. I’d look places in RI and Maine, but the best programs I know of are in Florida. Eckerd is one I have heard great things about.

Washington Seattle.

They just got a $120 Million+ grant to study and map the ocean floor. Good theater too.

[UW gets $126 million grant – largest ever – for ocean observatory](http://www.seattlepi.com/local/409784_uw02.html?source=rss)

“…you are going to need to be on the water and I’d say NY is NOT a hot spot for that specialty.”

I’m assuming you forgot about SUNY Stony Brook’s undergraduate marine science program. And if your interest in water critters extends to lakes and rivers (Limnology), I’d consider the Environmental/Ecology program of the SUNY branch at Cornell University.

This is really weird… this thread is from 2007… .but yesterday when I posted in it, it was on the 1st page…

I second the University of Miami. My daughter is in their Marine Sciences program and it is top notch! They took all the Marine students (only 100 get in each year) to a coral reef snorkeling off of Key Biscayne the first week of classes! They have a good theater program and a great music school, the Frost School of Music.
