Hi guys,
I'm a junior student hunting for medium to large-sized US schools in big cities (well, I fell in love with busy, urban atmosphere. Can't live without polluted air). I poured down some info here.~ Please give me some suggestions. Thanks a lot!

-attend a public school in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Female, first generation Chinese immigrant, immigrated in 2006.
-planning to go to Finance, Investment, or Business.
-have Asthma and homophobia. ;)

Grades:
SAT I -going to take it in May+praying for good scores. =)
SAT II: planning to take Physics, Math IIC, and Mandarin.
AP: planning to take Calculus, Physics, and Mandarin.
TOEFL iBT (probably useless):110/120
My school marks are fine:
Math 12 Honors AP: 100%
I'm taking Calculus 12 Honors AP- good chance of getting 100%
Physics 12 Honors AP: 98%
Should I write down more marks?
PS: I don’t know how to convert percentages to GPAs…sorry T-T
Rank: I have not asked my counselor. But definitely top 10%.

ECs:
President and founder of a student study group, which now has 85 members.
Teaching assistant for an experienced Math teacher at my school (volunteer)
Student Council
Choir
Cross-country
going to join Track and Field
Book Club
Math Club(not an active member)
Start tutoring students since 2007. (volunteer and work experience)
volunteer for a table tennis organization.

Awards:
Many Math awards, like school champion for Junior ASMA, Silver Standard in Galois, bronze for BC College High School Competition...
Top student or Subject Excellence for some courses
Passport to Education (a provincial scholarship for academic excellence)

Hmm, this is all I can think of for now. Thanks for reading. Please give me some suggestions if possible. Thanks again! =)

We need your SAT scores and AP scores (if you have taken). This amount of information is simply not enough.

Also. What is your immigration status? It makes a difference if you’re a PRC citizen or Canadian citizen. Do you require financial aid? If so, how much.

Also do not take SAT Subjects in your native tongue, Mandarin. Colleges don’t look very highly on that, especially since you migrated to Canada so recently.

Thanks fiona_! I really appreciate your help. ;)

I have not taken SAT or AP-going to take both of them in May. Cramming right now~
Estimation for SAT: 2000-2100?
For immigration status, I’m still a PRC citizen, in another word, permanent resident of Canada. Just out of curiosity, how will the status affect application?
Financial aid: no aids needed.

u should probably try colleges like Northwestern, Cornell, NYU (city life!!!), etc
lol wow i realize we have quite a lot similarities
lol im gonna take the exact same SAT2 (got a 800 in Chinese LOL)
i am a hong kong immigrant, immigrated (to US) in 2005, XP im a Canadian citizen tho
i got a 111 in TOEFL, 2000 range SAT (arggg)
lol and Im interested in doing double major, probably comp sci and something like finance and business XD

waitatshu:
ahh~NYU and Cornell-I love these two. We are in almost the same situation! HOHO-let’s apply together and see if we can meet each other at the same school.

PS: Do you think that McGill/York Univerisity/Western Ontario is better than NYU or Cornell? They are really famous in Canada.

lol Winbin I’ll try, but u definitely have wayyyy better EC and u have far more awards than i do~
arrr I know nothing about Canadian colleges == sry i fail lol

Not in the US. McGill and Western Ontario are the only Canadian schools most Americans can name. They’re both very good, but you take a “prestige hit” coming across the border because of the lack of graduates from those schools in the US. Western Ontario is probably viewed as a 2nd tier school, and McGill is probably seen as a 1st/2nd tier borderline.

Homophobia? Well, that’s going to limit your choices. Let’s eliminate all non-religious schools in big cities…you’re left with…Roman Catholic institutions? And even there it’s often taboo…

If you really have serious homophobia, I feel bad for you searching for colleges. It’s very unacceptable on most college campuses. Have fun with that.

!!!OMG, I’m terribly sorry. I have HEMOphobia, not homophobia…I faint when I see a drop of blood. My bad. Does anyone know how to edit the post?
T-T Apologies.
