My third year at a community college and I am planning on majoring in business, most likely management.

By the end of this year, I will probably have a 3.5 GPA. What schools should I apply to in California? There doesn't seem to be any schools in the mid-tier area. The upper edge schools are like UCB, USC, Santa Clara, USD and such, but my GPA isn't quite high enough for those and I will not have calculus completed. I also don't really want to go to the lower-end schools such as UC Riverside or just settle for San Francisco State (where I live). So what are the more decent schools in between these choices?

Also, I would want to go to the other UC's but I don't want to do econ.

USD sounds doable with a 3.5 as does Santa Clara. These private colleges are especially open to full pay candidates if you’re one. Can’t you get into the mid tier UCs with a 3.5 and a TAG agreement?

Most of the UC’s do not offer business, only Econ. That’s why I’m not interested. Also, they all require which calculus which I don’t have. I do really want to get into Santa Clara or USD though. I think I’m borderline, especially without calculus.

Take calc now, even if you have to do it online. That is pretty basic for any business program. And unless you want to be an accountant, studying business is not important for a good job in business. Most who get the most sought after jobs in business went to schools with no business major. So a mid tier UC in econ beats any CSU in business.

If you take it in the spring you will be ok however they will probably ask for spring grades to make sure you completed it with a decent grade. As Hmom5 stated, usd & santa clara sound about right for that gpa since usc/calwill be out of reach most likely.

A lot of the UCs have Business Management Economics (BME) programs, and you don’t have to have your calculus done to apply. If you’ve got 60 semester units you can enter as a junior and fulfill your major requirements at the University. Also if you’ve completed the IGETC requirements you’ve got a good chance of getting into any of the UC BME programs. I don’t know anything about the Business Administration majors at the UCs.
