i am chinese and i live in california, i am applying to in-state schools

i am thinking uc irvine, uc riverside, cal state long beach, uc san diego, and cal poly pomona. whichi colleges should i apply to??

my dad went to CSULB and is an alumni, so i am sure that i can get in CSULB.

I would apply to to them all because they are all basically California schools, not really much difference in applications. I think UCI I’d say is a reach in the past few years, it’s getting more competitive, same with UCSD. I think you have a good chance at riverside and CSULB.

A reach school is a school that you have a reasonable chance of getting into, but could easily be rejected from. Without an outstanding essay, a glowing teacher recommendation, or some good luck, your chances are not very good. If you were accepted to your reach school, you would be in the 20th percentile or so of successful applications (in a list of 100 applications, yours would be better than 20 of them).

A match school is a school where you strongly resemble the average person getting in. You have a solid chance of getting in, but could still possibly be rejected if it is an unusually competitive year or if you make some blunder in your application, like a horrible essay or teacher recommendation. If accepted, you would be in the 50th percentile of successful applicants.

A safety school is a school you will almost certainly get into. You will almost certainly be accepted, unless you make a grievous error in filling out the application, get convicted of a crime, or turn in an essay/recommendation that strongly implies that you’re a racist. If accepted, u]you would be in the 80th-90th percentile of successful applicants.
