What schools should I be eligible for?

I took the October SATs, and got 700 CR, 700 Math, 750 Writing. I then took the November ones, and I got 660 CR, 710 Math, 760 Writing. I’m looking at Cornell, U Penn, Emory, schools around that range. Obviously it’s too late to take the SATs, should I try the ACTs? I have around a 3.5 unweighted GPA.

A lot more goes into college admissions than just test scores and GPA – like curriculum (level of your courses), extracurricular activities, honors and awards (national versus just local, e.g.), volunteer work, leadership, class rank and percentile, etc. It would be impossible to say whether you are “eligible for” a top ranked university just based on the information you provided.

Also, know that even if you listed an entire resume here with perfect scores, GPA, awards, etc., no one can answer for sure whether you would get into a tippy top university like an Ivy. Every year thousands of perfect applicants are rejected, because there are just so few spaces and a large number of applicants. Be sure to apply to a wide range of universities and not just the reaches.

That said, your SAT score is pretty solid for applying to top-ranked universities if you have the other things to go with it that they are looking for. A 34 or higher on the ACT would be solid. Yes, try the ACT. It’s worth a shot.
