What schools should I be looking at?

Okay, I'm a rising senior: I'm just looking for input early. =P If I want to apply to attend in Fall 2012 and will send in my application as early as possible, and am in state, I was wondering if it's even worth applying with a 3.84 unweighted gpa decent extracurriculars (NHS, which includes tutoring 8th graders in writing since 10th grade and the local animal shelter, Marching Band all years and editor of the band newsletter, Forensics with a few trophies in impromptu speaking, including this year's 5th place state champion). =P

I have also been in Honors English since 9th grade (all A's there) and have taken Ap World History (got a 5 on the exam) and took the AP Gov, AP US history, and AP Euro history exams this May. There are no AP US or Euro classes at my school: I self studied. I haven't gotten the results from any of these back yet, but I assume that I got a 4 or 5 on the gov exam and a 4 on the US exam, with the Euro exam less certain. Next year I will take AP Lit, AP CPS, and AP Econ, all as classes. I am also in German and Spanish, if that looks good, I don't know...my public school is decidedly average and most people don't have two foreign languages.

Now, the big bummer: my ACT is a 30. I'm taking it at least one more time, trying to get it up to at least a 32.

With how my stats currently stand, what schools should I be looking at? I am in Michigan, and right now am looking most intently at U of M and MSU. Do I stand a chance at getting into UM instate with these stats? Are there any bigger (Big 10 preferrably) schools that would provide any aid out of state? Also, my parents work at MSU, and I get half off tuition there. Is UM worth the prestige (if I get in) and higher price in that case?

I am in the top 10 percent of my class.

Sorry for all the length! Thank you so much!

Go to MSU…

Go to UMich, despite the higher tuition, the programs are certainly worth the cost. UMich has some of the most prestigious programs in the WORLD!!! I think you would certainly be qualified to be a Wolverine
Other Schools to Consider that have great aid:

Vanderbilt-reach
UNC Chapel Hill- low reach
Emory-low reach
University of Notre Dame- reach
University of Wisconsin-match

Why not get the College Board’s book of sample SATs and see how you do after some practice? Some people find they test very differently on the SAT and ACT.

Look at the James Madison College at MSU

It does look good. It shows adcoms that you are a serious student.

You do realize that 96% of the college hopefuls in the United States would consider that a very good score indeed?

Hard to believe you would pass up MSU at a discount. That being said, Nebraska (newest Big Ten member) offers a discount, as do Kansas and K State (Big 12).
Oh please, for someone so smart you should realize an act score of 30 is excellent. You have a great resume and will able to go to many many good schools. :)
