I am trying to avoid schools with a big party scene. They don’t have to be anti-party, I just want to avoid schools with a reputation for partying. Also want to avoid very liberal schools like Wesleyan or Macalester and I want a campus under 1000 acres (if it’s 1005 acres it’s not a big deal.)
So you are looking for schools that will provide need based aid. That rules out many state universities outside your own state (although some give significant merit aid for high stats).
Any clue on major direction? STEM? Pre-professional – headed to grad school for medicine, business, law? Also, are you male or female?
I am male. Business, Computer Engineering, and English are the three majors that I am considering. English I am considering if I want to go to law school to become a lawyer afterwards. If not, business or Computer Engineering.
Come on, what would an ACT 32 student do at Nova? I mean, they’d have plenty of time to work on their tan, but so do the other students.
TCNJ may work but it’d likely be too expensive.
U Alabama Honors would be within budget and you’d get to enjoy warmer weather as well as one of the top Honors Colleges in the country.
Other possibilities: Marist, Geneseo, Goucher?
If your EFC is about 12K, what about Connecticut College, St Olaf, Skidmore?
Most of those don’t offer Computer Engineering or business, that is one reason I asked the OP about major. They do have English. And Econ, which is certainly related to business. Here is a list of schools that say they meet need and seem to meet your criteria (although not all have computer engineering, but all have computer science):
University of Richmond
University of Rochester
Emory
Brandeis
Boston College
University of Southern California
Run the net price calculators for these and see how they look for you. You will have to do the research on the party scene, but I think all of these have a big enough population that you could find students are aren’t into partying.
TCNJ has a top level Undergraduate Business program and several notable alumni in the law/political arena.
With your stats might be honors school which comes with merit on most occassions. Also push for OOS
recentley could help. It’s small school 7000 with beautiful colonial style campus. Lots of other accolades as well.
Take a look , you will be pleasantly surprised.
Thanks for the help guys, but many of you seem to be missing the point. Cost is not a factor. On every single college cost calculator that I have used of schools that are around my GPA and ACT scores, my cost was under 15,000. My family can pay that with maybe a little bit of loan left afterwards which is fine. Many of you keep bringing up cost, but that is not a factor in my college search.
If that is true then you are probably only looking at schools that offer excellent financial aid which would make them a reach. What does your school list look like right now?
Yes, IMO most are reaches (the top accepted %age is 38% at CWRU and they do NOT meet need). I have trouble believing you got $15K from CW’s NPC. Please understand we are trying to help you. Long time posters have seen students go into applications with NO safeties and then be left with no affordable solutions. That leads to a gap year. Do you have a safety (or two - some people really want a choice at the end).
I do have safety schools. UCONN, and Manhattanville are among them. But, I am not looking to expand my safety school list. I am looking for schools that I am really looking to go to. Thanks for all the help
