what schools should I look at?

just finished my first semester at St. Bonaventure, and I'm thinking about transferring. I'm a history major and will be transfering for spring semester of next year. I'm from New Jersey. I just finished up with a 3.33 gpa, and it looks like I will get anywhere from a 3.5-3.8 gpa for this semester. My HS gpa was a 2.6, and I got an 1100 on my SAT's. I also am in the campus green party club, and Model U.N. I was thinking about Clemson, Ithaca, but I really would like suggestions too because I don't know much about what schools look for as far as criteria from a transfer student. Also, I will only have 29 credits when I apply for transfer, but will the school also assume that I am taking 18 credits in the fall semester because I know some schools require 30 credits for a transfer. Thanks.

bumpppppppppp

The school will know you are taking the 18 credits in fall semester. There will be a place on the application to indicate your current courses.

Some schools accept spring transfer, some don't. That will limit you somewhat. If it is not critical that you transfer in spring, I suggest you identify several schools where you would really like to transfer, and then decide whether you want to do it spring or fall. Rather than let the spring transfer idea limit you.

It's really not possible to suggest schools without knowing - why you want to transfer, what you're looking to find different at the new school; what fields you are interested in, what you like in a school as to size/atmosphere/location; what your financial constraints are.

If you elaborate more on those things, people might be able to suggest places.

sorry for not giving you enough info, i was in a rush. Basically I don't really have any financial constraints. I'm looking for a school that seems like the student body is really close together (hence why I'm looking at Clemson) but I'm also looking at schools that are a bit smaller just because I'm not sure if I'm willing to go to a school with 20,000 people (why I'm thinking about Ithaca). But right now I'm considering both. I intend to major in history with and hopefully minor in either secondary education or psychology (I want to be a teacher). I would also like a school that has a good social atmosphere (parties and a good amount of activities around campus). It doesn't have to be near a city as long as the school is fun to be at but being near a city would hurt my feeling towards a school and would actually be a plus since I love to go to concerts. Also, it should be within a fifteen hour drive from New Jersey. I'm leaving my current school mainly because of the required courses. We have to take a good amount of required courses and too many of them are religious for my liking. I still wouldn't mind going to a religious school, I just don't want to take six or seven classes that pertain to religion. I would also really like to transfer next spring so if it takes spring transfers thats a plus. I don't mind warm or cold weather.

Maybe try Syracuse, Goucher, Univ. of Mary Washington, Virginia Tech,U Maine, UNH, Roger Williams, St. Michael's (VT)... I have no idea which accept Spring transfer - you'd have to go the each website.

Those are just a few ideas. Have you tried Counselor-O-Matic on Princeton Review's website? It's a good way to get some ideas.
