I am currently a junior in high school.
I have a 3.9 UW GPA
I just took the SAT for the first time and got a 1900, and will probably do a little better the second time, but not by much.
I really don’t know where I should be looking to apply. I am really interested in joining a sorority, so greek life would be great. I want to go to a fun school, but one that is highly esteemed as well (something like the University of Florida?)
I have been treasurer of a community service club for two years, student government for two years, and rowed variety crew for three years. I was also on the debate team for two years. I also started a community service organization.
I don’t know if these extracurriculars will really help at all, but this is just to give you a better idea of what i’ll be putting on my applications.
If i could get a list of a couple schools you think i have a good chance of getting into that would be great.
Will you need financial assistance? If not, then look at Tulane, SMU, Clemson, USC, University of Miami, U. of Alabama, et al. If you are willing to travel to colder climes, Syracuse, Lehigh, Bucknell, and Miami of OH are all options. Higher test scores might make you more competitive. Your GPA will be adequate for almost any college, but breaking 1400 for CR/M, or a 31-32 on the ACT, will increase the likelihood of merit aid if you need it.
Money is not really a problem, but if I could get a little bit of money then that would be great. I live in Florida, but I really want to go out of state.
Ohio Wesleyan University
George Washington University
Creighton University
Ohio University
U of Washington-Seattle
U of Oregon
U of Kansas
U of Colorado-Boulder
U of Kentucky
U of South Carolina-Columbia
You may not want to hear this, but your in-state public options of U Florida and FL State would fit the bill nicely so I would not discount them. UMiami sounds like it would work as well. Some other ideas offhand might be Tulane, GW, URichmond, Pitt, UIUC, UIndiana, UColorado- Boulder, Syracuse. You can try using the SuperMatch function to the left under Find A College.
So you’re undecided, and have no budget. This narrows it down to 2250 schools…
I’ve looked at the good schools ranked highly for Greek Life, that aren’t in Florida. Not much else to work with!
-Case Western University
-College Of William & Mary
-Lehigh University
-Louisiana State University
-Syracuse University
-Union College - NY
-University of Arkansas
-University of Georgia
-University of Iowa
-University of Virginia
Look at UGA. Has solid Greek Life element and is well-esteemed, especially in the South. More importantly: they do offer some merit/aid to OOS students. If you can nudge that SAT up to at least 1950, you’d qualify for their Classic Scholars scholarship, which is specifically for OOS students.
Also definitely look at University of Alabama. Depending on your CR+M scores, you may already qualify for some of their partial tuition automatic scholarships. And if you nudge your score up, you’d only qualify for more aid there. Ditto University of Mississippi.
beside Tulane, UMiami, UF, and FSU, look into Emory, Vanderbilt, UVA, USC-Columbia and its Honors College, UAlabama and its Honors College, UMaryland, Penn State, UGA and their respective Honors Colleges.
