So I just got back the SAT today, and I got 1900 (660 CR, 650 M (this is soooo pathetic as I'm in freaking calculus and got a 5 on the ASMA!!!), 590 W)!!! I can't believe I just failed the most important test a person could ever take, especially after I took a summer course, and formed a regular study group that meets for 2 hours every week!!! Now I'm basically doomed to a crummy state school like OSU, UO, University of Washington :(

My question is though are there any good schools (top 30 either LAC or National Universities) that super-score the SAT and or ACT. I think the problem is that in the math section, which normally is my best area, they scored a section that I didn't do so well on, and counted a section that I aced as being experimental :(

omg I'm sooo depressed...excuse me while I cut my wrist.

First of all...1900 is not bad. You combined for a 1310 on the most important part of the test. Second, if you are good at math as you say you are, you should be able to bring your math score up quite a bit. Just study and take practice tests and you'll bring that up to a 700. As for the writing, study grammar and take practice tests and you'll bring it up to a mid-600 or higher. You can always take the SAT again...don't worry

OSU and U Washington are not crummy at all. Your test scores are fine. You certainly have room for improvement (considering your academic credentials), but do not panic. I also don't appreciate your elitist attitude. Remember, there are also test-optional schools...IE Bowdoin.

theres lots of lacs that dont even look at sats...they dont want them...ex. bard college and such....dont sweat..ur not doomed...take a breath and reconsider ur options

Another parent posted that WashU superscores the ACT, but I don't know of any others.

U-Dub is a great school. But, if you have excellent grades, and test scores are your only "weak" spot, look at LACs that are test-optional. You can find a list on fairtest.org.

When I was researching what schools super-scored the ACT. It seemed like a large majority of private schools are super-scoring them. But, then again, a large portion of the people I talked to on the phone/in a email didn't know what they were talking about. For example, when I talked to USC on the phone, they said yes they superscore ACT, but then I got an email saying they didn't (one that I sent before I called, but they didn't seem to respond to for awhile). So I called again, and the person said oh we don't superscore (confirming the email). So I figured, hell, maybe she doesn't know either. So I called yet again, got another person on the phone, who said they did super-score it. In conclusion, don't always trust what the admissions person says.

Personally, from what I found after most phone calls, is that most private schools superscore both ACT/SAT, while no public schools superscore the ACT or SAT.

Here's what I found from a few phone calls:

WashU - (314) 935-6000 - Yes
Emory - 404.727.6036 - Yes
Cornell - 607 255-5241 - Yes
CMU - 412-268-2082 - Yes
UMich - No
BC - (617) 552-3100 - Yes
USC - No
UT - 512-475-7399 - No
Lehigh - 610.758.3100 - Yes
Case Western
MSU - (517) 355-8332 - No
NYU - (212) 998-4500 - Yes

However, I don't take my info as a positive yes/no. Like I said, I have a feeling lots of the people I talked to have little or no idea what I asked them.

Go to one of the "crummy" schools, get good grades, and transfer after one year.

Retake the SAT.

Take the ACT.

Apply to many of the SAT-optional schools, which I think include Holy Cross, Bates, Bowdoin, Middlebury, and many others.

Apply to Canadian Schools that are prestigious and excellent, but are not as competitive to get into (McGill, Toronto, Queen's, British Columbia).

My son is applying to a bunch of east coast colleges, and they all "superscore" although, I had never heard them use that term, they just said they would take the highest individual score on each test, even if the test dates were different. So, maybe that is why you are getting different answers from people at the same school, they are not using the same terminology... just a thought.....

Calif, I think only 10% of test takers break the 1300 barrier- so relax. And, you are a Junior with PLENTY of TIME to improve those scores.

Relax, or test anxiety will get the best of you. If you don't know about the legendary CCer named Xiggi, then time for you to read his threads regarding SAT prep.

And, moving the Math score is the easiest- You will definitely improve each time to take it, as many have, as much as 200 pts!!

Yes, there are plenty of great schools who will accept those scores- and, you are more than just those numbers, right ? :)

If that's what "superscore" means - highest score from different test dates - Vanderbilt is on the list. And Vandy's CR+M average is only about 60 points above what you made on your first attempt. Many people go up at least that much on their second testing.

what do you mean by superscore? I have never heard of that.

USC will continue to consider each applicant's best SAT sub-scores, even if from different sittings. However, we will not combine sub-scores from the old SAT I and the new SAT.

And I think USC is a top-30 school - I forget the exact USNWR ranking, something like 22 or 21.

first of all university of washington is deffiantly not a crummy school. that is a ridiculous statement. usc does superscore. and while usc is now ranked in the top 30, just last year it broke into the top 30 on us news' ranking, it has never been in the top 30 before that. it is deffiantly not #21 or #22. i believe it is #27 up from #30 or #31 last year. it has risen quite fast as five years ago it was not even ranked in the top 40 universities according to us news.

Well, I guess I'm being a bit ridiculous because it has the best med school in the country (I want to be a doctor btw), but it has no reputation in anything else. What if I want to try and get into investment banking? UW won't be able to help me there. So yes, its okay, but its definately nothing great. Its also expensive (30k for OOS) and I don't want to be in debt after med school (given I can get in, which right now seems to be a long-shot). I know the privates I'm looking at are more expensive, but at least I won't flip burgers at burger king if I don't get into med school.
