what schools to apply to

I'm an international student (Nigeria) and I'm planning to write s.a.t very soon. I'ld like to know the best schools to apply to that will increase my chances of getting a full academic scholarship or something close to that with the lowest s.a.t scores. The catch is the school should be under the NCAA division one men basketball as this is the most important thing. another thing is that my o and a' levels exams are like 5 years old

If you want to play competitive basketball in college, why don’t you get in touch with coaches to secure an athletic scholarship? It’s much more likely that you’ll get a full scholarship for athletics than academics…

Back to academic scholarships. Since there aren’t too many Div I schools, you can check them all for academic scholarship opportunities by hand. Here are a few that I know of to get you started:

LSU has a full-tuition, room&board and $2,000 stipend scholarship for its top 10 non-resident students. Minimum SAT score for consideration is 1,440 (verbal+math). Villanova has a full tuition, room&board plus books scholarship whose recipients have an average SAT score of 1,450; however, the scholarship committee is looking for civic engagement in addition to academic achievement. (The average academic superstar with an SAT score of 1,450 only gets a $5,000 scholarship.) Lamar has a competitive full tuition, room and board scholarship that requires at least a 1,250 for consideration. Mississippi has a full-tuition and room scholarship for their top entering students; it requires a minimum SAT score of 1,280 and a record of community leadership. Alabama has a full-tuition scholarship for out-of-state students with an SAT score of at least 1,400. International honors students can get a full-tuition scholarship at Tulane; minimum requirement is a 650 on the critical reading portion of the SAT.

Even if you got a scholarship covering full tuition, room and board, you’d have to fund health insurance, airfare and personal expenses. Those can easily add another $5,000 a year. Can you do that? Also keep in mind that those are scholarships for first-time college students. If you’ve ever been enrolled in college (even in another country), you wouldn’t qualify.

Athletic scholarships could potentially give you a bit more money.

thanks so much im actually just seeing this. i just wrote my s.a.t had verbal + maths combined score of 1360…wat do you think my best otions are? then im so not a first-time college student. does this mean i have no hope??
