Work Experience:

Working as a paid research intern with a doctor at my local med center
Worked a paper route for 7 years

maybe schools like Emory and Wash U?
You’d have a chance for a full tuition scholarship at Wake Forest University.
Then some state schools like UGA, LSU, and Alabama.

Nebraska
Temple
Alabama
Auburn
LSU
Mississippi
Tennessee
Kentucky
Kansas
Kansas State
Oregon
Washington State
Arizona
Arizona State
Missouri
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
UMass
South Carolina

You could try for schools like BU, Miami, Tulane, Syracuse, Indiana, etc.

I’m sure others will have good suggestions.

^I’m liking the Olympiad stuff. Did you guys make it to Nationals?

Unfortunately, we didnt…I was the only one on my team to place…= D

i suggest tulane- very into merit aid, good school, awesome town

UNC-Chapel Hill

For admission, certainly, but getting a Moorhead or Robertson is incredibly difficult.

My kid had VERY similar stats to the OP, and has a full-ride OOS scholarship as a Carolina Scholar. No extra application for the scholarships sponsored by the Office of Financial Aid, only for Morehead-Cain, Robertson, and Pogue. It seems worth a shot to me.

That’s pretty amazing. I dont think anything beats a full ride to UNC. I’d take that over any school in the country.

Hmmm ok…would I be competitive for merit aid at Rice university?

If you’re a National Merit Semifinalist you’ll get a full ride to Fordham, and judging from your stats you’ll get into the Honors Program, too. (That second part is a big plus… Ask me about it if you want more information.) If you want to be in/near a city at all, this should definitely be on your list.

Assuming your course rigor is considerable, your record makes it worthwhile to look at Rice, and also Vanderbilt, along with some of the other suggestions made above.

(The last I heard, the largest award at Rice is half-tuition; Vanderbilt’s is full tuition. However, the total cost of Rice is less to begin with.)

U of Southern Calif offers around 200 full tuition scholarships to top students each year. You would definitely be eligible for consideration IF you apply by Dec 1. If you are a NMF, and are accepted then you automatically qualify for a 1/2 tuition scholarship.

At Rhodes you’d be in the running for a Bellingrath Fellowship, but it wouldn’t be a sure thing.

Yes, I think you would be competitive for merit aid at Rice. They give out merit aid to about 1/3 of their incoming class. (My son received 2 merit scholarships at Rice including a guaranteed research position amounting to 2/3 tuition with less impressive stats.)

Look at this thread. You should be competitive for just about all of them:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/211927-institutional-merit-based-scholarships-full-tuition.html

Hmm well I’m glad to hear that. Lol…ya I am kinda nervous about Rice. I absolutely love it there, but because prestige doesnt really matter for premed I am reluctant to cough up the money needed to attend there. I know this is a loaded question, but wat would you say the odds are that I get a semi-decent scholarship there (15k+) =D.

Rt-- there is absolutely no way of knowing the odds of your receiving a scholarship at Rice. Just go for it and see what happens. Aside from being a fabulous school with a laid-back atmosphere, it has unbelievable internship and research opportunities for pre-med students with its proximity to the Texas Medical Center (14 hospitals and 2 med schools) right next to campus.

Also, have you considered applying for the Rice-Baylor (guaranteed med school admit program)? It’s very difficult to get in, but worth it to try.

Take a look at University of Rochester as well.
