What scores do I send?

I am applying to Northwestern Early Decision but I am confused as to which test scores I should send. Any advice?

January 2009 SAT: 640 M/770 CR/680 W = 1410/2090

June 2009 SAT: 640 M/640 CR/710 W = 1280/1990

Superscore: 640 M/770 CR/710 W = 1410/2120

September 2009 ACT: 34 R/34 E/32 M/28 S = 32 composite with 10 essay

October 2009 ACT: haven't got the scores back but I'm thinking anywhere from a 31 - 33.

Should I send in everything? Or should I send in just my ACT for September? Or should I send in ACT for September and October? Or should I....you get the drift.

Any/all help is appreciated!

Thanks guys

All of these scores are at or below NU’s averages, so it’s a tough call. I’d probably stick with just the September ACT.

You COULD send the January SAT, but it will have little effect. NU doesn’t look that closely at writing and the 1410 is slightly below the averages.

We are extremely similar in test scores!. Your ACT scores aren’t below average - they’re right in the thick of it. Their middle 50% scores are 30-33, so your 32 (almost EXACTLY the same subscores as me, too!) would be your best bet. It’ll be in their top 50% overall of test scores, most likely, and is a solid number that shows where your strengths are. My friend from Loyola told me she has NU friends who sent in lower scores.

If you were going to send SAT scores, I’d also agree with January, but you’re probably safest with just sending your ACT scores. It’s what my college advisers and many here have suggested for me, and my March SAT score is just 10 off of yours.

The thing to remember is that scores aren’t the only thing they’ll look at - I know the NU alum from my school had a raw score in the 1300’s and got in, and a good friend of mine sent in a 29 for Brown and got in ED. If you’re an extremely strong and well-rounded student, you can worry less about your scores. Add in a strong two essays and good grades and you make a good case for them, especially ED.

Good luck!
