There are "millions" of all sorts of lamps at the tag sale. You could bring yours, but you'll probably end up dumping after freshman year, as I say many do.
I found out that I did most of my studying away from my room, and the little I did there was in the afternoons. In fact as the semester got busier, all I ever came to do in my room was crash.

I feel like bringing a load of pizza from NYC because I know I won't find any good pizza up there..lol

Actually, hot tomatoes is pretty good! And some like colonials.

The pizza at the '82 grill is also really good. And you can use your lunch/dinner points to get a personal pan.

what is "the tag sale" .......... and when is it?

its the ABC sale which takes place in October (or late September..cant remember exactly) where you get second hand clothes and other stuff really cheap. It coincides with the ABC party (all but clothes) but has no formal affiliation. It takes place in the congregational church (the sale, not the party).

I thought it was "Anything but Clothes." Basically a party where you have to wear, well, anything but clothes. Popular "costumes" include tape, boxes, skittles wrappers, etc. etc.

I think the tag sale is probably F/B/O A Better Chance, which is a long-established program that provides better educational opportunities for
disadvantaged high-school-aged students -- they are brought to the area and attend area schools. There's a house in town where they live.

oh yeah, my bad, maybe it is anything but clothes. Tape is a bad idea though...one of my friends did it..it was painful after the party.

You gotta be willing to take one for the team, as it were. Or just drink enough to not mind getting your hair ripped out...

When deciding on what to bring, realize that there are restrictions on some appliances - http://www.williams.edu/admin/security/about/alarm.php. I understand that the fines for violations can be quite stiff.

Re cell phone - from this parent's point of view, its a must. The only time we hear from our DD is when she's walking from one place to another or doing the laundry. Without the cell, we'd probably never hear from her. We use a Sprint family plan with free long distance, free mobile to mobile and free nights and weekend minutes. Works great and doesn't break the bank.

Yeah. But seriously, would anyone really think to bring a deep fryer to college?

well, i know a kid who brought a steinway piano and somehow fmanaged to put it inside his room.

Really? Who had a piano?

this guy from Armstrong 2..i posted his name accidentally here but edited it out...a blatant breach of someone else's privacy it almost was:P

Ah yes, indeed... I only know about one or two people from that entry, and neither had a piano, so, I'm assuming I don't know the kid... oh well, haha.

One of the not-so-nice experiences I had was having to get out at 2am on a freezing winter morning, and waiting out bare feet for about 20min while security went about turning off the fire alarm. Those things are so piercing, and if you're in REM sleep, you it gets into your dreams before reality.

Those fire alarms can wake me up from my grave..yet i know someone who slept through one of the fire drills.
I know what you mean Jrock, i nearly got frostbite once because of that.

Go with the Williams standard issue room desk chair (are they all wood?) or bring one up from home/ Thanks

You've got wooden chairs in the frosh quad. But in Mission [formerly upperclassman housing] the chairs are cushioned and can rock like all the ones in other dorms.

However, you may find that you'll spend very little time in that chair. But my chair was really uncomfortable, though, after long hours. A friend of mine brought a small cushion from home.
