What Should Deferred Students Expect?

I am out of state, and was deferred early action at UNC. I was wondering if anybody knew the odds of getting in regular decision after being deferred, and what usually determined that acceptance. I know that the admissions committee can't really look over ALL of our (the deferred students) applications again and again, so do the midyear reports make the biggest difference?? For example, if I had all high A's in my classes, with a rigorous course load, should I expect a good chance of being accepted this round? What is the SAT/GPA range for the usual deferred pool? If anybody had any information, that would be very very helpful.

Also- do most deferred students get waitlisted, or do a large percentage just get flat out denied?

MAny of the deferred will be eventually placed on a wait list around april, and will not hear till June if you were in or not. If you do, it is best to place a deposit in another college and explain the circumstances that if you want to go to Carolina if accepted, you’ll give up your space. It happened to a friend of mine, and now he is a soph in Carolina. My sibling was deferred in 2008 and then rejected in april.
In the interim, if deferred, send any updates in your application, improve your grades, etc. good luck

If you’re wait-listed though, don’t hold you breath. I heard something like 10 students got off the wait-list last year. My cousin was put on it, and never heard anything and is now attending Elon. I agree that many of the deferred candidates will be put on the wait list. If I were in that position though, I would go ahead and decide to attend another college and then try to transfer after a semester or a year.
