Other than relax and enjoy, what are some things current college students reccommend for that summer before your freshman year?

Savor it. It's your last time with your high school friends before college puts distance between you. things will never be quite the same, so party up, drink up, enjoy other things... just have the time of your life. Road trips, beach days, concerts... whatever. Just make it a summer you'll always remember.

relax, go on a vacation to somewhere fun, and enjoy having a summer off. I haven't had a summer off since I started college (I get six weeks "off" this summer though!! still have work but no class!!).

What I did the summer after I graduated was a 2 week roadtrip with my mom and best friend all over the eastern portion of the US. We went to Memphis, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Hershey PA, Gettysburg, Philadelphia, New York, and DC (basically a big circle starting and ending in east Alabama). We made a couple of pitstops along the way as well to some fun wacky places (Elvis's birthplace in Mississippi, the world's largest ketchup bottle in Illinois) and also stopped at the memorial for where the plane went down in western PA on 9/11. It was very fun.
Later that summer, we went to Orlando and had a Disney Day and also went to a water park there.

Great Idea!!!!!

My D will be working three jobs to help pay for college.....

I'm gonna sound weird, but I think you should probably take a class or two over the summer at a community college so that you don't have to take as many classes over the school year. I mean how busy could you be from 10 am to noon. I bet half of your friends won't even be up by then. That's just what I'd do, but then again, I'm weird.

I'm going to take 2 college classes, go on a nice vacation, and work so I can have money to spend in college. I'm actually thinking about getting a 2nd job because I'm not needed that much at my current job during the summer. I'm hoping to really work out a lot so I can be super fit for college. I also plan on doing some major shopping!

Spend a month in Europe with your friends. An amazing experience that I'll never forget.

I wish I had taken calculus or some random other hard gen eds the summer before college at a community college. Get that crap out of the way before it ruins your college social life.

If your university offers summer courses I would highly recommend taking them. Getting acclimated to college workloads and midterms/finals (in a more relaxed environment, of course) is very useful. You get those first semester jitters out of your system early. Not only that, but you can (hopefully) pad your GPA and get an ego boost from the easier classes. Also, you get to meet a TON of cool people, ranging from other motivated freshmen to Finnish MBA students =P

sorry to hijack this thread, but I have got a thing to ask related to the OP's question.

I am international student. Though I haven't been admitted anywhere yet (I will , I hope), if I have any chance to go study in the States, do I have to come a bit earlier because my English language proficiency might not be enough?

Tsenguun -you sound good to me! :) But if you're really worried, there's always tutoring available. I don't know what you hope to acheive by comming a month or two earlier -unless you just want to get use to us Americans haha. I think you sould spend it in Mongolia with your family -if you're going to be here for four years...

Summer plan options: some summer school courses at my comm. college (they're giving a discount!! two for one price hahah :) ), major shopping, and (if my sis doesn't come back) maybe a few weeks in Cali??
...I can always talk my parents into a road trip too haha

I was considering takinga college course this summer but someone told me that if i was to take a college course the summer b4 freshman year....My status would change to an undergrad from a freshman and it will affect my financial aid in September. Can someone please confirm

I'm going to Lollapalooza :)

Maybe take a class or something at community college. Definately work, unless your parents are well off or something, because you do spend a good amount of money in college.

But just have fun, because like others have stated, after you come back from college, its just not going to be the same with your friends.

Go to Burning Man or Bonnaroo

do something you always wanted to do, but never had the time to learn it because once you get to college life is going to busy and youre not going to have as much free time as you think. ie, take a programming or a machining class, learn a new language, learn how to play a new instrument, learn about investing. there are so many possibilities. it is really your last "summer."

freshman year- if you cant find an internship then get a job. every summer after that is pretty much internships until your first job.

Play tons of basketball, go swimming, play Smash Bros. and Mario Kart.

Ya...definitely not taking any classes during the summer.

Backpack ALL around Europe...man I cannot wait!

My dad really wants me to take some classes at my college. I'm against it just because it's really expensive, plus the whole me being nervous about being thrown into a new environment.

I want to get a job, travel, etc. But if I could find a class nearby to take to give me college credit, I might do it.
