^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
atleast a 2100+ or 2200+??
im not talking about HYPSM but some top notch schools like Dartmouth, Columbia, Cornell, Brown, Vandy, Emory, Washington U in St. Louis and some of these are special medical programs which are extemely competitative
so what do u guys think about what range would be solid to get into these schools because i have everything else like ECs, recs, grades, and will have awesome essays so what do u think???

why not 2400...

In my opininon...not many ppl are gonna do well on the first exam. THis is the first time this is given out and who knows how hard its gonna be compared to the old one.

well, its graded on a curve, so a certain amount of people will get very high scores still - probably the same amount as before. However, the amount of perfect scorers will more than likely go down drastically. Personally I'd say a 2200+ seems like a reasonable score for ivies, for other top-notch schools I'd say 2100+.

I agree...between 2150 and 2300 is proabably a good "target"

Why not multiply the prospective schools average SAT I from last year by 1.5 and voila, a score to aim for.

2150+ damn

i agree with rExRuN467, remember when SAT I first came out? 1300 was a score to die for, but look now, people frown at 1400s. so.. i think the average for March SAT I will hover around 1450 or 1500/2400

I am thinking Colleges are going to look closer at the percentile than rather your Actually SAT score. (because they have nothing to compare it to, i mean previous tests) So i believe that if students was scoring within a percentile range before, and now takes the NEW SAT and score is between the same percentile, they are going to be competitive in the admissions process.
Side Note: when your dealing with Top Schools you never know.

"In my opininon...not many ppl are gonna do well on the first exam. THis is the first time this is given out and who knows how hard its gonna be compared to the old one."

Eh...anyone that can buy a book for 20 bucks and take a little time to test themselves with the NEW practice tests given by the people who ADMINISTOR the test would know "how hard its gonna be compared to the old one." And the curve will not matter, several people on this board have spoken to collegeboard personnel who have explicitly told them that the curve will not be significant, and also i posted a curve that will most likely occur on the "sat test and prep" board (this was given to me by princeton review class, and the source was collegeboard).

anyways to answer the original question, anything about 2150+ is good, in my opinion equivalent to 1400+. I also agree with the above poster in that colleges will look more at percentiles and how the student does amongst the population rather than the score itself.

why would you aim for anything less than 2400?

2400 is almost nearly impossible for most people unless u are a stud test taker
i think im gonna aim for about a 2200 or above but i wouldn't be too sad about a 2100 or above
btw im not taking it in march
im gonna take it in Jan. 06 to see how well i will do and if im satisfied i won't take it in march 06 when the rest of my grade will take it
in the summer im gonna rigorously prep for the SAT and achieve my goals cuz im a long ways away right now

a perfect score on this new SAT is going to be a lot rarer than a 1600 was. the test itself is simply longer, and it'll be a test of mental stamina to stay completely alert for four hours.

The individual sections don't seem to be too different from last year, so try aiming for about 750 on each section. If anything, removing analogies ought to make the test easier than it was before.

Who knows if the number of perfect scores is going to change? It all depends on how they curve the raw score onto the 600-2400 scale. It was possible on the old test to miss a couple questions and still receive a 1600.

Also statistically speaking it will be harder to get a 2400... This time you have to ace 3 sections- not 2
So people might easily ace both math and verbal but might mess up on language... There is just more room for error

people frown at 1400s

NO they dont!!!! you elitist!

in my opinion SAT is a bunch of crap it doesnt test you like an iq test does or anything

Eh...anyone that can buy a book for 20 bucks and take a little time to test themselves

Thats exactly why i think this
