What should I aim for?

I'm a Sophomore and English major at a top 20 university and have just begun sending out internship applications. As a liberal arts major, I understand that the best I can expect is an entry-level position in sales, marketing, public relations, management, etc..., which is fine, as I'm hoping to get my MBA after a few years of work experience (4-6 years). What's difficult, however, is deciding what to go into and where. As someone hoping for an MBA at a top program (at least top 25), I would like to work somewhere that isn't a "dead-end". Somewhere with an OK starting salary and where hard work can result in a salary increase and promotions (which is crucial for MBA programs, from what I've researched). What departments, then, would best foster this type of environment? What type of companies should I aim for? Big firms? Small, personal businesses? My university is on the outskirts of Atlanta and I can spend the summers in Austin, so I'm probably going to be aiming for businesses in those two areas.

I currently have an interview offer at a top commercial real estate brokerage company, so I'll hopefully be starting my internship experience there. Thanks for any advice.
