I'm a junior in UCLA majoring in political science with GPA of 3.91. I've had lots of extracurricular from volunteering at church, teaching high school students (in school, not tutor), couple sports, mock trial, and all that jazz. Research assistantship over the semester and PLUS program over summer, and a study abroad for summer. Pretty solid recommendations lined up as well. I think I'm pretty well off on those... However, LSAT seems to be my weakest point. I've taken a completely cold LSAT and scored 152. I want to practice in California (LA/OC/SD), and my dream schools are UCLA, USC, UWash, Boston U, and Notre Dame. I know pretty long and random list of schools but I would be totally stoked to be in any one of those. So... I plan on hitting the LSAT books and classes either during or after winter break for the June 2011 test. What should I aim for? And how hard should I kick myself in rear to get there (in terms of hours/practice tests per week)?

And just for giggles, if I get like 162 (I hear +10 is realistic), what are my chances? Or any other school suggestions for my level?

Thank you much in advance!

P.S. I read in the threads that I might put an addendum saying that I have history of weak standardized testing. I had 2100 in SAT... is that generally considered low for UCLA with 3.9? Uh... you know what I mean... right?

P.P.S. Sorry for these annoying random questions.. but I don't want to make a new thread or a post about these... So yeah... random question: are Asians considered under-represented ethnicity in law? I know we're not in pre-med and business. har har... Yes. I'm asian and I brought dishonor to my family's name because of my 2100 in SAT and not wanting to go pre-med :P

Ok, assuming a 3.9 162 all of the schools you listed are probably not going to happen. A 165 will give you a chance at those schools though. But if you want to practice in California and you don’t end up at a top school, you are much better off staying in california for school than going to Washu, Boston, and ND. But back to the hypothetical numbers, with those numbers and your wish to stay in cali you are going to want to apply to every school along the west coast. except for stanford. So berkeley, UCLA, USC, Hastings, Davis, Washington, Irvine, and pepperdine. And with those hypothetical numbers you’ll likely get into Davis, Hastings, Washington, Irvine, and pepperdine and have a chance at scholly’s. USC you may have a small chance at but it’s not likely and UCLA, Berk, and Stanford are probably for sure not happening.

But here’s the thing, you can do better than a 162, just work your ass off. Also, a 2100 SAT is not NEAR low enough for an addendum that you don’t standardize test well, in fact I think that would hurt you if you wrote that addendum.

When the average SAT is 1540, if you actually write that 2100 proves your lack of ability to do well on standarized tests, you are likely to have your application thrown in the trash.
