what should i apply as?

i'm applying to some pretty competitive schools (not HYPS level or anything, but slight reaches for me) and i don't know what to put as my prospective major. i will either be chemistry or chemical engineering. i'm a girl, so i was wondering if my chances would be higher if i applied CE(the engineering dept only has 25% women), or if it would be harder because engineering is typically more competitive? i honestly don't know which i'd prefer.
any sugesstions?

Admissions aside, I think it will be easier for you to transfer from engineering to chemistry than the other way around. Most schools that offer engineering expect you to apply to that program separately, as the admissions standards are often higher and they won't just let you declare an engineering major once you're in as a freshman.

I agree with Weenie.

Do remember though, that admission for most engineering programs is usually more difficult and if you're rejected for engineering, you may not be considered for the regular college of liberal arts and sciences (or whatever the specific school calls it).

any other pro/cons?
