I have a 3.69 weighted GPA and a 2000 SAT. 1370 Math+CR. I want to go to Indiana University for little to no cost. I miss there merit scholarship by .01 on my GPA, and I begged them to make an exception as I far exceeded their SAT requirement, however they rejected me. Is there any other campus scholarship I could apply for? What local, state, or national scholarships do you recommend I apply for? Thanks!

Are you an instate student for Indiana?

I would suggest you talk to your guidance counselor at school regarding state and local scholarships…but you need to realize that MOST of these are one year awards ONLY. They are not renewable for after your freshman year. Also, they tend to be smaller awards each ($1000 would be a larger one). You would need MANY of these types of awards to attend any college for no cost…and that would just be for your freshman year.

If you are a high school senior…I hate to be the bearer of bad news but for many of the nationally awarded large scholarships, the deadline has either past or is VERY soon. Are you low income? Do you have some kind of specialty interest that a national organization might sponsor?

Most national scholarship awards are either for HIGH stats kiddos (it’s possible your GPA would be too low for those too), and/or for students with financial need (does your family have financial need?).

Hopefully you have applied to some other schools as well. If finances are a significant consideration (and it sounds like they are), you would be best served to have some choices of financial aid to look at in the end…from different schools, as well as an option that your family can afford (considering that you will get at least a $5500 Stafford loan).
