What should I bring to Orientation?

My son is looking for a list of what to bring for orientation. He is leaving in the morning. He has heard he needs to bring a sleeping bag. Is that correct? What about a pillow? Anything else besides clothes?

Small pillow, sleeping bag, change of clothes (polo shirt, with jeans or kahkis) and money order for boots.

That's all huh? Well, thank you very much.

Make sure he has a jacket or sweatshirt (the weather changes fairly abruptly) and he'll need some spending money (my son purchased a hat and a shirt for $15). It's also good idea to have him sign up for a checking account (we opted for Armed Forces Bank) - they need it for direct deposit.

Do they give them the opportunity to sign up for a checking account during orientation, or is that something he would need to figure out how to do for himself?

I believe they do give an opportunity during orientation. If he doesn't get it done, he can always do it later, but my advice is to get it done earlier rather than later.

Thanks. And could you tell us again what the two choices for banking are and the advantages of each. I know you all talked about it on one of the forums but I cannot remember which one it was.

You can sign up for a bank account during inprocessing.

Here is the link to that thread:

Thanks so much. You "guys" ?? are all great. He decided on the Armed Forces Bank. By the way, he was surprised at how fast you replied. ( : Thanks again for the help.

Not at all..and a lot of us just browse this forum endlessly...so sometimes you'll get responses in seconds. :)

for sleeping, cots are proved, but they are pretty cold without a sleeping bag. a pillow workls, or you can also just use a hoodie or something like that
