What should I do about my SAT Subject Tests?

Hi there. I want to apply to Carnegie Mellon University, which requires me to take two (2) SAT subject tests. I am planning to take the Physics and Math I tests; however, according to CMU, all test scores are due by January 1.

For the next few months, I'm scheduled to take a lot of tests. I am taking the Math I test this weekend, the SAT test in November, and the Physics test in December. Since the SAT test scores are not released for around a month, I don't know what I should do. In practice, the Physics test should not take long to grade, but I don't know how long it normally takes.

Should I move the Physics test to November, and cancel my regular SAT test/B?** These are my only 2 subject tests (Math I and Physics), and I really don't want to screw up my chances. :/

You can still take the Physics test in December. just remember to use the score reports to send the score to CMU directly. It should get there by the deadline. Or you can always write to an adcom and ask. It never hurts to do so :)

Thanks for your reply; I really appreciate it. I’ll do both. =D

Is math I the only test you have this weekend? A lot of kids on this CC forum recommend taking the math II because the grading curve is better. If you have time, you could ask at the test take both to see which comes out the best and they will simply bill you for the extra test.

Just make sure to go with what is best for YOU.

You can’t switch… I already tried! HAah

This is what SAT said when I called. I hope I wasn’t dreaming… “all the tests are in the one booklet you receive on test day. It doesn’t matter to us which test or how many you take (up to 3). Just let the person at the registration desk know and you will be billed for the additional tests.”

I’m talking about switching from SAT to Subject Tests. I know about the actual tests.

Okay - I was only talking about the SAT II subjects. Glad we cleared that up.

@Kajon: Yeah, Math I is my only test this weekend; unfortunately, I can’t take multiple tests at once. I’m not very good at trig (I can’t even remember the trig identities), so I don’t want to get a bad score or anything. I did pretty well on the MC part of the SAT, so I’ll go with that.

myeviltacos, what kajon is saying is when you go this weekend to take your Math I subject test, when you are done with that test (1 hour long), you could stay and take Physics subject test. You could also squeeze in math II subject test because each subject test is about 1 hour long. You can do this even if you didn’t sign up for 3 subject tests for this weekend-College Board will bill you for the extra subject tests. Then, if you don’t do well, you can take one or more additional subject tests in December. I just wanted to make sure you understood what kajon was saying

Yeah, there really shouldn’t be any reason to take only one test that day.

Unless you have to rush out of there for some reason your really should take 2 or 3 on Saturday. Of course if you’re unprepared and would rather not spend the extra money it’s up to you, but the extra attempt at the test is definitely a plus.
