I don’t want to make any excuses but if I did I would like to say that being a first time college student isn’t easy. It doesn’t help that I was going through some things and even took some time off. I came close to quitting but I met this counselor that works for the Department of Rehab to not quit and to keep on going. I want to keep going but it’s embarrassing telling people that I haven’t transferred yet and that I have a low GPA.
Based on my GPA ( it will improve after this semester) what colleges will accept me ? I live near fresno in a very rural area,. My current major is kinesiology.
There are tons of colleges throughout the country that are not competitive. There are also many students in college who struggle for various reasons. Some are taking a very tough curriculum. It is not unusual to see a student with a perfect high school GPA barely hold a 2.0 in the first year of engineering. Other students are grappling with personal issues. Others are trying to balance a lot of different things. This site may give you the impression that you are in the minority. That is because this site caters to a very small percent of the college attending public and the sample is filled with hyper achievers. There are many students just like you. And there are many schools that don’t require high grades to enter. You financial situation can weigh in on your options. How have you been funding school? What are your funding options from here onward. What kind of school are you looking for? I take it that you are in community college now right?
Yes I’m currently attending a community college and as of now I am not getting any money from FAFSA but they are covering the fees for my classes. The DOH pays for my books and pays for my internet but that’s about it. However, it seems like they might give me more money this fall and I’ve been told that once I transfer that if I have really good grades and that I show more motivation that they will be able to pay for my whole tuition up to 35k a year.
I want to go to a school where I can get the college experience. Fresno State is okay but it would be nice to go to a college where I could meet new people, where there are a lot of things to do, etc but I also want one that’s close to home so I can come visit on the weekends.
