You have to prove that you have enough money on a bank account to pay the cost of attendence for the first year (bank statement), and you have to show how you anticipate to pay for the rest of your undergrad education (e.g. an employer statement about your parents' salary).

what if my dad is a private investor? namely he doenst have a fixed income

Usually you have to show the "average" income for the last 12 months (if your dad's income varies a lot, you may use a period longer than 12 months). Something like a bank statement, or a recent income tax return, or whatever you can get.

can I just send a bank statement that my dad have more than enough money to pay for all 4 years' tuition in a bank account?

sure, that would work too ;)

will they check the source of the money? such as from one of my dad's stock 10 years ago blahblahblah, or just the bank letter(or statement)? or they just want to see you have that much money?

You just need a bank statement saying that you have a certain amount of money right now and that you are able to access it.

oh, thx a lot b@r!um

Hey liang, our dad's kinda have the same jobs haha dont know what he does exactly but something about investing.
What I did was, I got a bank letter from this bank guy saying that this account is true to 2006 nov, and about how long we've been with the bank and all this boring stuff. - that was actually required by 2 of my schools - so you should check with ur schools whether they need it or not.
Then, I attached a bank statement.

do you need a income tax statement or something of that sort?

Most probably yes..........coz it is the most important thing in the fin.aid form!!!.....

thats because its fin.aid, what happens if my family pays for me?

I didnt send in an income tax thing..

I just sent them a bank statement showing that we have enough money to cover 4 years of tuition.
