What should i do in highschool to prepare to be a doctor

I need help figuring this out.

Start saving up a lot of money.

Study, take and enjoy sciences, including discecting things, and volunteer in a hospital. And saving a lot of money is a good idea too.

Parent here of daughter applying to med school this cycle.

High school has nothing to do with med school. Nothing you do in HS will be listed on your AMCAS application.

While having a strong background in science is necessary for the medical profession, you can major in anything in college to get into med school. I suggest you read the pre-med forum here on cc. [Pre-Med Topics - College Confidential](Pre-Med Topics - College Confidential Forums) You will find good answers there from physicians, current med school students, pre-med undergrads as well as parents of all of those.

Ok, im taking the most advanced classes my schools allows, all honors (im a rising 9th grader). I also am taking spanish ll and will take that class until spanish lV. I have never made anything less than a A. I also play football(jv) and i wrestle(varsity). I think my grades are good enough to get into a undergrauated school and then into a medical school. One thing that i am worried about is extra curriculars and volunteering. Im not sure how to get started in these. I have been thinking about talking to my parents about letting me volunteer at a hospital, probably at duke or unc since i live in north carolina. I have also been thinking about talking to my parents about doing a religious mission trip to a country like africa or something like that. I hope to get into a school like UNC or another school that has a good pre med course. But do you have any suggestions about volunteer work that or extra curriculars that i could do?

If your school offers anatomy and/or AP Bio as well as other AP sciences, you should definitely plan on taking some/most of them.

Im taking honors biology this year as a freshman, my 8th grade science teacher wanted me to take this and i will take AP environmental/earth sciences next year as a sophmore. I also think that our school does offer an anatomy class.
