What should I do over the summer!?

Quick preface: I am a Junior currently, high test scores, mediocre EC’s

Okay, so basically I have the test scores ( 34 C, 36 E, 35 M, 33 R, 31 S), but what I lack are leadership positions and significant extracurriculars. The summer is approaching and it is most likely too late for some activities, but what would you guys suggest are the most important things I can do over the summer to help boost other parts of my application (EC’s, volunteering, etc.). My mom suggests that I get a rudimentary job at a place such as the local grocery store, while I’m not opposed to this idea, I want to make sure that I make the best of the rapidly shrinking time I have left. What would you guys suggest I do?

Also, is club soccer (I’ve played for roughly 12 years) worth putting on my college applications? I’m curious because I’m not sure if it’s worth putting on the application since I’m not playing in college.

You don’t really need leadership per se. Just participate in the EC’s that you enjoy and are passionate about. Over the summer, you can work on any volunteering and possibly EC’s that you would like to do. A part-time job is certainly nothing to sniff at but what you do over the summer is your choice.

Club soccer is definitely worth putting on your resume whether or not you’re playing in college.

Of course club soccer is worth putting on your resume.

In terms of summer: Lots of things can help “improve your resume.” Do you need the money? If you don’t, consider a volunteer position at an organization that interests you. If you do, then find something that will make you lots of money.

If your ECs do not get you national awards, their primary value is as essay fodder.

You play club soccer and you want leadership? Go get your referee license and ref the summer tournaments you aren’t playing in. Or any rec games/tournaments going on during the summer. Fall rec games too, if you can squeeze a few in here and there.
