what should I do...really confused

I'm going to study engineering science in university of Toronto this fall(i'm canadian.)
but i don't really know what I really want to do since I'm interested in so many things. So now I'm thinking about applying to med school after I get my engineering degree. But I don't know if I can actually do that since it seems that all the med school students went to study lif sci for their BA. And I want to apply to top american schools since that's the only reason i want to go to the States. I don't know if my engieering degree will get me into top med schools (BTW engineering sci in U of T is claimed to be the best in Canada).
and also I don't knw how I should plan my four years effiecently so I can actually have a good chance for schools like harvard etc. (like when should I take MCAT, where should I volunteer, what jobs should I get, what should I do during summer, should I take summer school da da da...)
anyway, I'm really confused now, my tread my be confusing too, but that's what I'm thinking right now.

PS: is there really a big difference between top medschools and avg ones?

every med school in the US is really good. (Carribean ones are on a lower standard so I've heard)

as for gettin an engineering degree, then goin to med school, all you have to do is do the required classes (and do amazing on MCATs)

I would suggest taking MCATs in april (or the earliest date) of your junior year. (as long as you are prepared for it)

as for volunteering- hospitals and shadowing doctors are your best bets.

jobs- i'm not sure, but anything in a hospital/research/clinical would probably be your best option.

during summer - i'd suggest volunteering, possibly getting some of your pre-med/engineering credits out of the way, maybe a job

summer school - review what classes you need to take to get your bachelors degree, and review what classes you need to get into med-school and do good on your MCATs, and decide whether you have enough time to cover all that during the regular school year, otherwise do summer school

hope that was of some help
hopefully people w/ more expertise can comment.

thanks evlbooyaa
