What should I do right from the beginning?

Guys, I'll be attending college in Fall this year and would love to study medicine. What do you need to do to get set for Med School right from the beginning? Suggestions would be appreciated.

Take the pre-requisite classes, join some clubs, seek out volunteering/shadowing. Talk to your pre-med adviser.

Keep your GPA as high as possible, as close to 4.0 as you can get.

Thanks.
@mmmcdowe: What clubs should I join? Is a leadership position necessary? I don’t think I can get a leadership position in the first year. And how many hours of volunteering/shadowing should I do per week during the school term?

Join whatever clubs interest you. Leadership in one by the time you graduate is enough, so long as you are doing something productive. Most leadership positions are garbage anyways. Do as many hours of volunteering shadowing as you feel like. This isn’t about who can accumulate the most hours or activities, its about doing things that interest you and that you are passionate about. Never do anything just for the sake of your resume, it will be shallow and ultimately useless.

vouch. i’ve seen too many people crash and burn first semester. fail.
