What Should i do since I cannot TAG? Stressed out...

Summer session is over and i'm sitting at 24 units, and I have a 3.0 GPA. I'm at my second year and i'm taking 36 units in Fall 10-Spring 11 and want to transfer in Fall 11. I believe i should be around a 3.0-3.2 GPA by the end of Fall 2010 with my math, both english, pre major, and my two science classes w/ 1 lab COMPLETED (basically i have IGETC completed besides language). I am a Political Science major and was wondering what are my chances of getting into a UC WITHOUT TAG. I'm currently looking at UCSD, UCI, UCSB. Should i apply to UCR, UCD? What about CSU? I don't know what to do since i cannot TAG. How many backup schools should i apply to?

I never applied to any colleges in High school and I'm so lost and stressed out right now... What if i don't get into any schools i apply to?

Any tips/help would be greatly appreciated.

If being short a few units is the only thing keeping you, I wouldn’t worry too much about not getting into any of your prospective schools. In your case, you probably shouldn’t apply anywhere you have no intention of attending. If you don’t get in to your UC’s, you’ll at least qualify for tag next year with no trouble. Staying another year at CC probably isn’t desirable, but if you’re committed to those schools it should be worth it.

why wouldn’t you be able to TAG? isn’t you just need a 3.0 for TAG and you’re set?

one of the requirements to sign TAG is 30 units, and i’m sitting at 24 :(

I don’t see that requirement on any of those school’s TAG info pages. All I see is that the last 30 units need to be completed at the CC.

my counselor told me one of the requirement to sign TAG was 30 units at the time of signing, which i do not have. is she wrong? for UCSD, UCSB

30 units at the time of signing is correct.

I don’t know how competitive it will be next year but those schools (including your backup UCD) rejected transfers with good GPAs 3.6-3.9ish. Is the GPA you estimate with straight A’s? Do you think it would be possible to get/aim for higher grades?

As for the 30 units I think it only fair to enforce it because a lot of people get rejected for TAGS if they don’t have 30 units completed at time of signing just as people who don’t complete 60 units get rescinded for admission. I don’t know about the CSU system at all but they tend to work closer with the local community colleges around them.

I think you do have a shot at UCs in the regular applicant pool if you write really good essays and work the GPA a little.

Good Luck
