What should I do to get into cs department in University of Washington

Hello everyone,

I’m a current UW student majoring in archaeology and human evolution programs of anthropology. But I’m also interested in Computer Science since I want to do something with artificial intelligence after I graduate. I took Phys121 last quarter and only got 3.6. I’m taking math 125 and CSE 142 this quarter. I think I would get around 3.9 out of math 125 but I didn’t do good on CSE 142, so may be only 3.5 for CSE.

I just have no clue with what should I do to get into cs. I will definitely try to get higher GPA on CSE 143. I talked to a cs advisor, and she said it would be find with a 3.5 for CSE 142 and a higher one for CSE 143 to show them that I’m making progress here. But, she also said I should have some other activities or individual programs out of class. A friend of mine told me he made a video game to get in. But I know nothing about programming before taking the CSE 142. So, making a video game seems impossible for me. I would like to know what kind of things can I do (that I’m capable of) to help me get into cs department in UW. (ps. I’m especially interested in AI, so it would be great to do something about AI so that I can show them that I’m really trying me best to learn more about AI in my personal statement).

Thanx

Have you looked at https://www.cs.washington.edu/academics/ugrad/admissions and https://www.cs.washington.edu/academics/ugrad/admissions/regular ?

Basically, it is a highly competitive holistic admission process. You may also want to put in transfer applications to other schools where you would be able to get into the CS major as backup plans if you do not get into the CS major at Washington.

thanx, I did look the school websites before I ask here, cuz I didn’t think the school website provide any useful info about individual programs.
