what should I do with my major?

Little bit of introduction of myself… you can skip this.
Hello, I’m a Korean international student in American high school. I will be a freshman in Texas Tech University this fall! I started my high school in American as a junior last year. I am proud of myself to make it this far in very short period… Texas tech granted me huge… huge scholarship with $15,000 a year, and my mother is very happy about this result.

So, when I got accepted to Texas Tech, I found this major called, Energy Commerce. It was fascinating major that makes me to consider double majoring it with accounting. My future plan is to do both MBA & CPA and at the end… I want to be a business controller.
This is the Energy Commerce description that TTU provides

Should I consider double major? I mean I do have time until my sophomore year… but I guess I’m being too excited. Also, do you think this will increase my opportunity to get accepted to great business school? (for MBA). Please give me your advice and please be kind hhaha.

Thank you so much.

Koreankoala96 I would strongly suggest that you apply for the Honors College as well. It will open a lot of opportunities for you & the classes are great.

franko5150 Thanks… I missed the application deadline for honors college… Sigh… Do you think it will be too late if I apply for it during my freshman year?

No, some people have done that. Whatever the case make sure you do it. I applied as a transfer & was denied/rejected. I then rewrote a letter stating my case & was accepted. I love it! The privileges you get as part of the Honors College along with the better classes are just too good to pass up.

Thank you thank you!!! I will make sure to apply honors college ! Your comment was really helpful . I appreciate it

Also do you have any comment that you would like to share about Energy Commerce?

So you would say, even I will apply for honors college as a freshman, it will not be too late? Am I still going to be able to graduate with Honors designation?

You have to take a certain amount of hours for the honors designation (honors or highest honors etc). I transferred over as a junior & I’ll easily be making it by taking 1 honors class per semester. I would take more, but most are available for freshment, sophs etc. I guess also since I am a history major, it limits the honors classes I can take. I took a Critical Writing honors class last semester & this semester I’m doing History of the Mafia. Next semster I will be doing Intro to Social Psychology Honors. Then it will be 2 semesters for my honors thesis. There are other classes available, but not to my liking. I took quite a bit of honors classes at my previous college, 12 hrs transferred. If I was starting out I would have taken MANY more. I heard one student had like 60+hours of Honors classes. Lucky guy. In either case, you will love it & like I said, we get first dibs on scheduling, study abroad etc.
The honors college students are strongly encouraged to do study abroad. Many of the students from my Mafia class are going to Italy this summer with the professor from that class (her husband is Italian & also teaches that class), I will be going to Spain to the Seville TTU campus. Honors students are getting about $2K to $3K for study abroad scholarships and they are GUARANTEED to receive some kind of aid for study abroad. Let me know if you have any other questions. Sorry, can’t help you with energy commerce.
Another thing, if you want to do research, like for energy commerce (whatever that is) they WILL hook you up with a professor for you to do research. The Honors College at Tech is truly a gem is all I can say.

I am interested in the honors college at tech, how would you say it stacks up to being a normal student at Texas A&M?

Sorry I can’t help you since I’ve never been a student at A&M although I have many friends there. I can only comment on Tech.
