What should I do?

I'm currently a freshman at Colby College and I'm planning on transferring out after this year. Question is, I'm taking four classes, three of which I have mid to high A's in, the other, economics, I could potentially end up with a C in. Economics is known as being the hardest department at Colby, but I don't plan on pursuing in the future so I'm thinking about dropping it if I get my next test back and it's a bad grade. Is it better to have four classes and an okay GPA or just drop it and have a stellar GPA (I would probably have a 4.0 to a 4.0+ without it after this semester)?

I'm hoping to apply to The College of New Jersey and Haverford, two schools a bit closer to home. I'll probably go with TCNJ, as I'd like to be a teacher and they've got a solid teacher prep program at a fraction of the private school price. If I apply to TCNJ, I don't see just having three classes during my fall semester as being a big deal, but with Haverford I'm a little worried. As far as my stats in high school, I was in the top 10% at the top public high school in NJ, had a 1410 on my SATs, (SAT IIs- 680 writing and 700 math---awful, I know, but I never studied or took them seriously because I really didn't need them for the schools I applied to. Haverford requires threes SAT IIs, but I told them of the situation and they told me they'd accept 2). Do I even have a shot at Haverford? Who knows. It's probably TCNJ anyway.

i thought about haverford as well (considering transferring). i did look up the admission rate, and if i remember correctly, the transfer admission rate was rather low, like maybe 2 or 3 out of 45 or 50 applicants. i'm not too sure though, that may have even been a differnent school.

about your grades, i'm in the same boat, as well. i should have three solid a's in three of my classes, but as for my third class(a polisci class outside of my major), i have a solid b, and if the next quiz and the final goes wrong... then it could be even worse. i'm just going to tuff if out, i guess. most transfers have gpa's around 3.5, so...

Whoa. That's a really low admission rate. Then again, it's a really small school, so I guess it's to be expected. That's okay though, because I'm leaning toward TCNJ anyway, as strange as that may sound. May I ask what school you're at right now?

anyone else?

Why don't you like Colby? I almost applied ED there...

I don't like the isolation of the campus, for one. Second of all, the ONLY thing to do on the weekends is get trashed, which I have gotten very sick of. I don't feel very challenged academically, even though this is supposed to be a top ranked LAC. I'm not getting any financial aid, and I'd rather go to school closer to home (TCNJ for example) to save money.

There are a lot of other reasons too that are far less concrete and harder to describe...

It's just like when it doesn't feel right.
