What should I do

I'm going to apply at colleges next year and I'm considering my options.

One of the paths in life I am considering is to become an artist. I am good at artistic things, I was a music prodigy as a kid, I'm very good at creative writing and poetry, my paintings have been featured pieces, etc. I have a lot of ideas that I would like to pursue in some sort of art scene and education.

But this is my situation...

Although I got A and B grades my junior year, and will have those grades my senior year, have taken 3 AP tests, and will have a good SAT score when I take the test, my academic record overall is not very good. During my first 2 years I got like a 1.5 GPA average (I have a good reason for poor grades though). My involvement is average, as I only was in a few clubs and did minimal community service hours.

I have an exceptional art portfolio though and have good recommendations from my art/music teacher. People have told me I am very talented in art.

I don't have much money for college.

I just don't know what to do with this and need advice.

You can try applying to an art school, though I heard those could be expensive. Make sure you apply for financial aid, and see if you can join some art contests that offer money as prize. You could search up scholarships as well.

Art schools generally offer poor aid and cost a great deal. With your grades you may have to start at a local community college which will also be more affordable.

I agree with ErinsDad, you might want to start at a community college. A school that popped out for me is University of Iowa, they have a very good english/humanities program
