What should i do?

Hey all im stuck here...
So im applying to UC davis and UCSD(its my reach) this year and im not sure I have the stats for these schools. I really want to go to these schools.

My GPA is only 3.0 - its a 3.38 at a CC here, but I did really bad at UCSC and got a 2.46
(I spent one quarter here before going to a CC)

If i do well this semester it can turn into a 3.3
So I cant take a 3rd year at a CC here either because Im already at a ton of units and only have 11 units left before I reach the max. I think there is a max for me because I attended a UC.

I want to be a bio major btw and I know this major is really really hard to get into.

If I were you just either suck it up and go to ucr and ucsd or cal state. You don’t have much option.

When you looking to transfer? Are you trying to TAG? With those stats I think at least UCSD is out of reach but possibly UCD depending on if the major is impacted there and if you have your prereqs done?

hi all, thanks for replying
i know SD is out of my reach =( but i want to try anyways

im going for a bio major and by the end of spring 2012, ill have all pre-reqs done for UC Davis.

im trying to apply this fall 2011.

oh btw,
today i talked to my counselor about what I should do if all of the colleges rejected me, and I only have 11 units that im allowed to take if i have to take a 3rd year…
and she kind of avoided the question lol

the thing is, i left UCSC to go to UC D/SD so im not sure about applying to other schools :(

bump for the day

are you even done with your pre-reqs?

do you have IGETC completed?

do you have EC’s?

there is more to this admission game than your grades…

if you don’t even have those remotely completed and you’re looking to SD, well you shouldn’t. If you do, consider it a slight possibility. As far as Davis, possible shot, but you will need assist done.

Yes, i have my IGETC finished. finally one good thing huh lol
and for davis, ill have all my prereqs
for SD, ill be missing 2 classes…

but really i know SD will not be possible, but davis is like my last chance so im just worrying about that one.

well for EC… i only have it from high school
but i was volunteering at 2 different places when i was at CC.
i coudlnt get a paying job unfortunately

i think you have a decent shot for davis, at least on appeal. SD i wouldn’t say bet 100 but bet maybe about 10 or 20 bucks.

i say write an excellent essay explaining your understanding that Davis will be a big step and you will work extremely diligently to exceed Davis’ standard, that and finish extremely strong for fall and spring, and you will make Davis.

I’d recommend you add San Jose State as a backup. They have a respectable bio department, and I don’t think you’ll have too much trouble getting in. If you get accepted to Davis, however, take it.

Depend what exactly do you want to do with bio degree. Are you going to research? Medical field? Environmental… etc?

Say OP was to apply to SJSU as a back up. What if the prereqs at SJSU and UCD/UCSD differ? Would the OP still have a shot at SJ?

(Asking because I’m considering transferring to a CC then to another school as well, although I’m not a bio major)

@above poster
Im just applying as “general bio”.
as for SJSU… going from UCSC to SJSU seems like a step back for me =/

bump 4 the day
i would like a little more comments before I decide waht to do…

You should apply to as many UCs and CSUs as you can and hope that one accepts you. It is easy to get 3.0+ GPA at a CCC but the last time you were at a four year university you could only manage a 2.46. Unlike most other transfer applicants, you have a track record at a four year school that is not likely to help you in transferring to a UC. I would not see it as a step back if you went to SJSU that can award you a Bachelors degree. That would be a big step forward from where you are now.
