What should I do? :(

So my anatomy and physiology teacher during sophomore year really liked me, and although she wasn't going to return to our school to teach, she told me to stay in contact with her so that she could arrange an internship for me during the summer with an amazing neurological researcher. I have contacted her ever since school was over nearly every week. She either picks up and says she hasn't had the chance (which was understandable, since she moved states and was going through interviews for a new teaching position) or she doesn't pick up at all and never calls me back. At this point, I'm tired of trying to contact her to get me that internship and a whole month has gone by! I've nearly lost hope and was thinking if I should just start looking for some researchers willing to accept me on my own. Still, I'm worried that if she does talk to him within that time and he agrees, and if I get someone else that agrees, then it would be a bad situation. If I end up waiting on her, my whole summer might go by and I wouldn't get the chance to intern with a researcher at all. I can't get another opportunity to work with a researcher during the next summer because I have a program that I might attend or may be going out of the country. So what should I do? I really don't want to waste my summer like this! :(

Don’t wait. Now you know to never let your fate rest in someone else’s hands, no matter how good of a person he or she is.

You should actively pursue other internships, but at the same time call her from time to time. Easy. There is nothing wrong with declining an internship offer.

I think every week may be a bit excessive for contacting her. But cover your bases and look for opportunities on your own. As someone else said, you should never rely completely on someone else to give you an opportunity like that.

Do not sit around waiting for the prospect of this internship. Go out and find other internships on your own, it’s alright if you end up finding one and then also finding out you received the one provided by your teacher. Being offered two incredible internships is a thrilling feeling and opens up a whole new world of possibilities (I had a similar experience). This way you are able to weigh your options and choose which one you feel is best for you.
