What should I do?

Ok, so my question here stems mostly from standardized testing. I'm in a little bit of a predicament.

Boston College is my top (realistic) choice. I really, really, really want to get accepted to Boston College. Here's the thing, though: I've taken the SAT twice (1890 and 2030) and I haven't taken two subject tests yet. I'd really love to take the actual SAT once more to potentially boost my score another 100 or so points (or maybe even get a higher superscore). The problem is that I don't have time to take the SAT and the SAT II's again before the early action deadline which is November 1st. Although I really want to show Boston College that I'm immensely interested, I feel that it might be more impressive to hold off on the early action deadline, possibly get my SAT score up, and apply with not only an improved SAT score, but an improved GPA (since I'll have an extra month or two to get my GPA up even more if I don't apply early action). I also plan on trying to take the ACT again in September; if I do well on the ACT, my problems will be solved.

Seeing as a 2030 isn't bad but isn't incredibly exceptional for Boston College, I'm wondering whether it would be worth it to try and take the SAT again.

So in your opinion, what should I do? Submit my current SAT score and go early action or hold off, get a better score and possibly increase my GPA, and apply regular decision?

Thanks

Actually, you can do both! You can take the November 5th SAT and still do EA as long as you have the scores sent DIRECTLY there. So right after taking the SAT, go online and redeem your free score reports and have it sent directly to Boston U.

Also, even if you decide to not redo your SAT and to instead just do SAT IIs, you should still apply EA to Boston U. This way, if your accepted, GREAT! But if not, you’ll be deferred and then you can send them new information about your SAT scores.

Best of luck,

 • Mike

Wow, thank you very much! I really appreciate that incredibly helpful advice. I just wanted to make sure that this is ok for Boston College, because you said:

"have it sent directly to Boston U. "

“still apply EA to Boston U.”

Thanks!

Oh I’m sorry, I thought you said Boston U. Anyway, all that advice still applies to Boston College!

Best of luck,

 • Mike

Thank you very much, Mike!
