What should I do?

I'm a cc student in San Diego, California. I always had a plan to go to UCSD and I know for sure I will get in, especially since I signed the U-link (contract of guaranteed admission to UCSD, as long as I keep a 3.5 GPA).

However, I have recently decided that I'm going to try to get into UCLA or Berkeley.

Here's the thing, if I try to get into Berkeley or UCLA, I'm going to have to stick around an extra year to make my application more competitive. If I don't apply to these schools I'm going to apply to UCSD in November, and be attending the university by next year.

My major? History and maybe double major with religious studies.

US News ranked Berkeley's history program at #1 and UCLA #9 ..but UCSD is at #30.

What I'm asking is, is it worth it to stay at my cc for an extra year without a guaranteed chance of getting in to one of these schools? Keep in mind, I do plan to pursue my education and I need to get into a good history graduate program!

GPA: 3.79 (will bring it up to a 3.9 by the end of the semester)
Major GPA: 4.0
Senator for my college's student government
Member of LGBT
Member of ASL club
Certificates for diversity and leadership
Volunteer at an anthropology museum
Volunteer at an organization that helps child refugees get into college (tutor)

I know it's not much, but I have a year to make myself more competitive for Berkeley and UCLA. So, is it worth it to stay an extra year at my college? Or should I just go to UCSD?

I’d just go to UCSD, rankings really don’t mean that much for undergrad and if you really wanna go to UCB or UCLA then apply there for graduate studies.

Just apply to all 3 in November and see if you get in. It doesn’t seem like history is impacted at either UCLA or UCB so I think you have a very good chance of getting in either one with those ECs and GPA, especially if you do raise it to 3.9 by the end of this semester.

What will you do in the extra year to make yourself more competitive? Personally I don’t think it’s worth staying an extra year for UCLA or UCB but if you really want to get out of SD, then maybe it’ll be worth it in the long run for you.
